Ange Long | 3 comments I honestly can't remember the exact details at all since I read this book in elementary school and I'm graduating high school now but here goes...

Remembering the book is a surreal experience but it was about a small boy who gets taken in and raised by a Native American man. The native american man also took care or owned a large number of these strange animals that the boy interacted with a lot through out the book. I also specifically remember asking my brother if he knew what these animals were because they had a really uncommon and strange name that I had never heard of before. Now, however the animal "wombat" comes to mind (but I'm not sure if that is my memory failing me). Near the end, the Native American man dies from malaria but the boy stays by his side until his guardian passes away. The boy ends up taking care of his little animal things I think. I specifically remember at the very end, the narrator talks about the boy, except now he has grown up. I think one of the last sentences mentions him "swaggering" off into the sunset yada yada yada mainly highlighting his growth in character and confidence. And it sort of paralleled the introduction where he was described as have the opposite characteristics???

This is all based off of what I can remember from 8ish years ago. I devoured books in elementary school so I didn't give much thought to this book again until much later. I hope I have all the details right but they may not be.

It's also a chapter book not a picture book
I can't find the book title or author but it may have been a pretty obscure book. Any help is extremely appreciated.

Ange, what is the story's time period and location?

How did the small boy come to be alone? What happened to his family and who are they?

You can't remember the questions Kris asked you about, or you can't remember whether it might be the two books Colleen suggested?

In other words, will you recognize the book if someone mentions it?

Ange ~~
If you looked at blurbs and covers of books suggested, do you think you might recognize the book? Or that you might check out a book that might be it and see if it reading part of it helps you remember?

Also ~~
You can "bump" your thread every month or so. This pushes your thread back to the top of the folder instead of languishing here on page 176 where fewer eyes will see it. Get back in the game! Bump!
You can do this by typing a new comment at the end of the thread, or even by typing the word "bump."
Good luck!
