And as a starting point, just to build up our nominations for the draw for January shelf, we will be requesting each review posts in Nov & Dec to include a nomination.
Tien, I know we want any shelves we nominate to have a certain minimum number of books. Can you remind us all what that number is?

Thanks. So many I looked at were just a touch above 1000, and I wasn't sure whether they were ok. Nice to know,

We are suspending the Monthly shelf the way it is currently run in 2024. Instead, we will have a Monthly Genre to run concurrently as per our 2024 challenge, Shelf Bender
We are suspending the Monthly shelf the way it is currently run in 2024. Instead, we will have a Monthly Genre to run concurrently as per our 2024 challenge, Shelf Bender
This monthly challenge is to explore a wide variety of shelves by reading books either found to have been shelved there or ones which fit it. Shelves on Goodreads are compiled mostly on how users have 'shelved' a particular book on their personal (GR) bookshelf.
You can also find what shelves a particular book has been shelved on by looking on the right hand side of the main book page; under the heading 'GENRE' and just underneath the lists of shelves shown there, there is a link, "See top shelves...". By clicking on this link, you will see quite a number of shelves users have placed this book on.
There is a list of shelves which you can find here: Top shelves
B. Instructions
Once the month's shelf has been announced, there will be a thread titled "20XX-MM - Shelf Name - What's on your TBR?". You can post in this thread of what book appeals to you or which book you'd recommend others to read. In this thread, you can also check out what others are considering to read.
When you've read the book for the monthly shelf, you are encouraged to post in the thread, "20XX-MM - Shelf Name - What did you read?", a link to the book you've read, a star rating, and a nomination for a shelf (word reviews are optional).
Entries for your nominated shelf will be calculated as follows;
+1 - posting the book you've read for this Monthly Shelf & star rating
+1 - word review (at least 3 sentences of your thoughts/feelings on the book)
+1 - link to another PAS challenge* where you've included this book
*if you link to 2 other PAS challenges, you'll earn 2 additional entries, and so on.
If you have 3 entries for your nominated shelves, that shelf will be entered into the draw 3 times and therefore increases its chances to be drawn.
NOTE: Your nominated shelf must have at least 1,000 books to qualify.
C. The Monthly Shelf
A moderator will randomly draw the monthly shelf and announce the draw by the 23rd of the previous month.
There will be a thread to note all nominated shelves.
There will be an expiry date per nomination (not shelf) of 6 months*. So if a particular shelf has been nominated twice in 2 different months, there will be 2 different expiring dates even though it's the same shelf.
*this new procedure will be reviewed in 6 months' time and we may extend the expiring date.
Once a shelf has been drawn for the Monthly Shelf, all entries for this shelf will be deleted and it cannot be nominated again for a period of 24 months.
