Hi all:

After skipping October it's time for another group read. November's book will be Jon Kabat-Zinn's new book, Meditation Is Not What You Think.

Unlike some of his prior work, this one is a brief 172 pages. It is actually an updated excerpt from his great but crazily huge 656-page, 2006 classic Coming to Our Senses. This is a book that is more on the philosophy behind meditation than an actual how-to book.

Whether you're familiar with Kabat-Zinn, who was one of the first to study meditation's physical effects and created the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program offered around the world, or whether you haven't read any of his prior work, you will get something out of this book. I actually read Coming to Our Senses many years ago, yet the material I'm reading in this book keeps striking me with "wow"s.

I hope you'll join us in reading this book next month. I will post prompts for the first half the book in the middle of the month, and we will likely finish it sometime in early December due to Thanksgiving and the fact that there won't be a group read during the busy holidays.

If you think you might join us at some point between now and mid-December, please let us know in this thread. If life intervenes and you end up not reading the book, no worries.

XO
Meryl
