.
Instead of your moderators coming up with three "themes" for the group to vote on ... we invite YOU to nominate a theme for next month. Could be a specific genre, a cover image, a title word, an author initial...

ONE nomination per member

To encourage participation from more members, the person who nominated LAST month's winning theme cannot nominate this month. So, Patty, you will *not* be able to submit a nomination (though you WILL be able to vote).

DEADLINE - 25Oct18 5p CDT, or 5 nominations (whichever comes first)

Once the nominations are closed, we'll set up a poll for membership to vote on the theme for next month.

NOMINATED THEMES:
Sadie Hawkins' Day - Female protagonist (Jaret)
Happy Birthday - Book about birthdays or a birth. (Agumom)

Native American character (Brittany)

Military Family Appreciation month. - Book features a military family or a branch of the military. (Carol)
Small Business Day - Main character runs their own small business (SANDYE)

Both my brother and my niece have November birthdays as well! And one of my best friends in college celebrates his 68th on Nov 3.

Cynthia ... this is the wrong thread for this kind of self-promotion. I've deleted your comment. But feel free to repost in the Promote Yourself Here thread.

You have to vote in the poll, Rory.

I sent an "invite" to all members, but if you don't have it ...

Go to the upper right side of the group's main page. You'll see our name and then a box with a lot of links. Last link on the right column is POLLS. Click on that and the first one is the current poll.

We have a WINNER -

Brittany suggested the winning theme: Book with a Native American character

Review thread will be up momentarily.

message 16: by Agumom (new)

Agumom I don't know how many have already read this, but I recommend There There by Tommy Orange. It was a very compelling read with different Native American characters with rich story lines that eventually converge at a Pow Wow.

I actually saw Tommy Orange when he was on the author tour. I'm liking it quite a lot so far ... but only on disc # 2 ...

Brittany McCann (brittanylmccann) | 20 comments Mercy Thompson Series has a Native American main character ;) If you have not yet experienced the awesomeness of
Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs

One of my all-time favorite epic reads about native americans:
Sacajawea by Anna Lee Waldo

Another excellent choice by a native american, about native americans is:
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie

Thanks for all these suggestions, Brittany.

Louise Erdrich's books are set on the Native lands territories of the Dakotas.
