Emma | 168 comments Here I am. Read-a-thon starts in 2 & 1/2 hours (at 10pm my time). Books: check. Snacks: check. Coffee: check. Nap: going to try now!

We start at 10 pm in my time zone:

- I'm a nurse and a self-confessed hermit

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
- It's my first read-a-thon... In the last few years I have become an avid audiobook listener, and have almost stopped reading 'real' books completely. I'm looking forward to getting my nose between some old-fashioned pages!

Elizabeth | 325 comments Welcome to the readathon Emma! Sometimes it's nice to pick up a traditional print book. I read mostly on the iPad now because its so convenient, but I like having a pile of real books for the readathon. Happy reading!

I'll bet it was! I'm a kiwi too, from Nelson. Have lived in Aust for 12 years but always plan on moving back home

I've read bits of 4 different books, but haven't finished any

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
I've just downloaded 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' after reading everyone else's comments about it

4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
I slept for 4 hours from 3am until 7am. Other than than my only interruptions have been social media

5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
How little progress I seem to be making!

I really enjoyed the Series of Unfortunate Events, although it took me at least a couple of years to finish reading. Hope you're making good progress after some sleep!

Will definitely participate again! Maybe after I've done a couple more I would be comfortable helping out.

Get a much better sleep the night before and have an afternoon nap on the day it starts (if it's 10pm again)

Don't read so many things/such long things so I can finish more

Participate in sprint-hours for less distraction

Yes, that's a nice way of spending the readathon. You get a sense of progress and achievement!

Emma | 168 comments Urrghh... Have been up since 5am, readathon starts at 10pm. Tried to have a 2 hour nap after work but lay and stared at the ceiling!

I was really hoping to be well-rested to try for the full 24-hours. I slept for about 6 hours in total last time.

Oh nooo! :( I'm taking a half day today from work so I can prep snacks, clean, finish books I'm currently reading, maybe watch a couple DVRed things. And then go to bed early!

Emma | 168 comments I'm a huge idiot! I was just making a coffee and getting ready to start readathon when it occurred to me that Australia is ahead of the US and it actually starts at 10pm tomorrow, not 10pm tonight!

Luckily I didn't drink the coffee! I can have a decent sleep tonight and be better rested for tomorrow night!

Loooove the Outlander series! Books and show! Reading more than socializing online is always something I want to do but it's also so fun to check in on everyone! That's why I decided on 4-hour reading blocks then listening to audio while checking it. Which I am breaking right now by being on GR. lol!

I love them too. I've listened to the whole series on audiobook. Now am really enjoying reading them on paper

I'm doing small power naps throughout the day. I'm up to 3 hours now

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? Continuing with Outlander

5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? How tired I am. I've slept for 3 hours so far. I thought that I would be able to go right through because I'm a shift worker and my body is used to night shift

I also progressed in 'Outlander' (Diana Gabaldon), 'Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married' (Marian Keyes), 'The Vampire Armand' (Anne Rice), and 'Uprooted' (Naomi Novik)
What was your favorite snack? Fresh-baked sausage rolls
What was your favorite facet of the day? The books! And the encouragement from the online community
