Spoilers ahead! This is not a recent book, I read this book about five years ago in middle school.

The protagonist is a young boy, I don't remember his name. He had a best friend, another boy, who was a trouble maker. Earlier in the book, the friend tries to shoot a squirrel but ends up killing someone's cat or dog. They did multiple things to get in trouble, but the biggest event that took place was when the friend hung up something in the street in order to make it look like a ghost. The friends sister was driving, saw the "ghost", crashed, and died. This took a great emotional toil on the brother, and the protagonist finds him drinking wine one day. They were definitely under the legal drinking age. There's a scene with him drinking wine where he talks about some bunny character that his sister loved. Later, the protagonist sees his friend in his room with a shotgun in his mouth. A lot of commotion happens, I think the friends dad is mad at said friend, and I believe the friends mom and dad get divorced. Friend moves away and we never see him again.

For some reason, every part of this book that I remember had to do with the friend of the protagonist.
