Jim Vuksic While speaking at the Edinburg International Book Festival, George R.R. Martin, author of the popular "Song of Fire and Ice" series, revealed that he has discovered, through correspondence via the "Game of Thrones" message board, that, so far, two fans have correctly theorized how the story will end, through subtle clues he has sprinkled throughout the books.

With two books remaining to be published, he has no intention of changing the ending.

Grace,

As is my habit, I checked out your profile. I am older than you; so I join you in anxiously waiting for Mr. Martin to churn out those final two books of the series.

I had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with several Aussie soldiers while also serving in the military a few decades ago. I thought they talked funny - They thought I talked funny. We got along great.

Grace,
How can you insist that Aussies don't talk funny, yet refer to your husband as a pommy for having been a member of the Royal Navy, or is he British? Since I believe that word describes one or the other.

Lynne Hinkey (lynnemhinkey) | 13 comments I agree about wishing GRRM would get on with it. And I hope he has a better thought out trajectory than Robert Jordan did with the never-ending Wheel of Time series. I loved those books, until I hated them because rather than moving toward a satisfying conclusion, he (Jordan) just kept leading us further down the rabbit hole. But after investing all the time to get through 8 (when the quality of writing and editing really started to suffer), then 9, then 10...11, 12 books expecting the ending in the next one, I felt compelled to continue reading. Then he died. (Another author was hired to write the last book, based on Jordan's notes--and decided there was enough material for 2 more books. That's when I completely lost interest in the ending.)

I went to Comic-Con this year. GRRM gets a bit nasty when anyone asks when he'll get around to wrapping up. "When I get to it," is the gist of his response. Hopefully, that wrap up will actually come about before the quality and interest wane!

Lynne,

I have to agree with your attitude toward those never-ending series that just go on and on and on...

The first four books of Jean M. Auel's Earth's Children series, beginning with The Clan of the Cave Bear, were great. However, it started to flounder half-way through the fifth book, and I had to force myself to finish the sixth book that ended the series.

The same with Stephen King's Dark Tower series. I loved the first five books, was disappointed with the sixth and, though I loved the ending, struggled through the final seventh book of the series, constantly wishing that Mr. King would put it out of its misery (pun intended) sooner, rather than later.

George R.R. Martin has stated that there are only two more books remaining of his Song of Fire and Ice series, making it a total of seven books. Let's hope he proves to be a man of his word.

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) It will end as it began: in pompousness. Vain and bloated like its foppish creator.

Matthew Williams (houseofwilliams) | 88 comments I'm counting on it bringing together the three people who seem poised to deliver on the whole "Azor Ahai Reborn" prophecy. I imagine Daenerys and her three dragons will return to Westerors (finally) at the head of an army consisting of Unsullied, Dothraki, and the Golden Company. I then foresee her armies joining with Jon Snow in his desperate fight to send the Others packing, and then Aegon reunited the Seven Kingdoms to the south and ending the Lannisters and their cronyism once and for all.

Grace Hamilton | 50 comments Arvo Jim, all Brits are Poms in Oz, I'm losing all patience with Mr Martin's series, almost don't care if he finishes or not, there are loads of other conscientious Authors out there that are great and finish their series, just finished The Outlanders by Diana Gabaldon, terrific story

Uh, I hate to be the bearer of this bombshell, but more recently, Martin said that it may be eight books instead of seven. I know, I was just beginning to like him again with ADWD and his promise to end it with A Dream of Spring. But the outcry has been sufficient that I think he might change his mind on that...

message 13: by Morgan (new)

Morgan Honestly, I'm just along for the ride. I haven't even considered how it's going to end. Mind you that the show's creators know does kill me a little on the inside.

Kristen Houghton (kristenhoughton) | 8 comments I would love to see Tyrion rule as high king. He's intelligent, savvy, & compassionate.

Tyrion and Sansa, together again, rulers of the unified land.

message 16: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Hinkey (lynnemhinkey) | 13 comments I agree, Cheryl. Sansa is still too shallow to appreciate Tyrion's wit, brains, and savvy, even if she could get past him being a Lannister. I suspect no matter how much her character grows over time, part of her will always be more about appearance than substance.

Yes, by the book she will be eager for Tyrion to return.

Tom | 4 comments I think the end is when George R.R. Martin has killed off so many characters that he writes his own death and the series suddenly stops dead at that page.
