An elephant shrew lives in Djibouti or surrounding area. They are apparently related to the elephant, though they are MUCH smaller, and have no trunk.

Sadly he did not. But a game show did have a Khruschev impersonator, who arrived wearing a bag over his head, and was then revealed to the watching millions. Obviously he was similar enough to be remembered afterwards, and then got promoted to the real thing! Of course the real Nikita would have been torn to pieces by the patriotic American audience.
