Susie, that's impressive! Not sure what's more impressive - reading 114 books or reading 100 while working 5 days a week. Has to be the latter.

Way to go, Jess!!! It's very cool that you are achieving a new personal best . . .awesome!!

We are so thankful you are here, Susie! I'm glad PBT helped you achieve new reading heights. I'm still impressed though . . .

This is the first year I have actually kept count and that is in part due to Goodreads challenge. I've just never paid attention, only continued to read.:) I will definitely meet the goal I set for myself this year and likely surpass it.

I was doing a Caldecott challenge in another group in 2016-2017 and about 30 of those books in 2017 were picture books.
So far this year I've read 142 books. Looks like I'll be at about 175 - 180 books for the year.
Audiobooks definitely have doubled my reading.

Audiobooks have definitely increased my count. I 'read' more audio than print these days. I'm more committed to doing a review or writing down my thoughts about everything I've read than to a goal of high numbers.

Every year I set myself a goal of 150, and this year to date GR says I am 9 books ahead of schedule - I have so far finished 127.

However, it has fluctuated widely over the course of my life, from very low due to child raising or going to university (I could not read for pleasure during a semester because once engrossed in a good book, I would have neglected my college work--I didn't care about studying or doing homework much when I was in high school).
I do know I have read well over 100, though.

I think the general trend, is thanks to PBT- many of us read much more!
The "downside" is many of our TBR lists are insanely longer because of PBT, lol.

When I was a young'un, though, I probably read hundreds of books a year. No way to tell now, of course, but I remember going through my school and local library like a wildfire. I'd love to be able to read 200+ but I doubt that will happen.

The last few years I've noticed I'm reading tons of fiction, but mostly rubbish, and so decided to make a conscious effort this year to actually read good books. It's been great. I've put my reading challenge for a reasonable 25, but changed it to 50 and managed to finish that too. I'm hoping to reach 60, and to continue next year.
I do have to admit that beside being a source of inspiration, Goodreads wastes quite a bit of my reading time. My reading peaked around March-April, but slowed down as I started looking at lists and reading reviews

I think 26 or 2 / month is probably my max unless I introduce more short books and graphic novels.
Next year will likely be much less based on the challenge I have ironed out for next year --> Shakespeare plays and their adaptations. Not as much "light" reading as I've enjoyed this year.

This year I promised myself I would read whenever possible but try to fit in some other activities. I took up golf and while I'm not that good I made some improvements. I had a couple pars and even one birdie. It's something my husband and I can do together that we both like. I've done lots of walking this year but I absolutely have to have an audiobook to enjoy it.
Anyway.......I've read 235 books so far this year. I love to read and I feel lucky that I can visualize the characters in a way that makes them so real to me.

I got an ereader, and can read books a lot faster with it, although I still like print books and audio. I count every book that I read, including craft and cookbooks (where not every single word is read), graphic novels, novellas, picture books, etc. My count so far this year is 325, which is high for me. Last year I read 331, and 217 and 266 the two years year before.

The last few years I have been in the 60-80 range, with my December full of trashy Christmas romance! lol. Also, audiobooks have made it possible for me to keep my reading up despite work and school. 50 out of my 67 books so far this year have been audio.

This year I promised myself I would read whenever possib..."
Hopefully me when I retire >:-)

This year I set goal as 150 and I'm at 147 ... will pass that goal by next week.
I live in NYC and commute to work, meetings, everything by subway and bus. Means I get a lot of reading done. I also read pretty quickly. And I love to read so read everywhere - when waiting for theater or opera to start, while eating lunch, standing on a bank line, wherever. I also don't read magazines, and mostly only glance through headlines and scan newspapers. I don't do audio books at all - don't like them. Much prefer reading books.

I used to subscribe to a few magazines, and I enjoyed reading them... I just rarely took time to because I was always spending my free time on books. After falling about 3 years behind, I finally cancelled them. Not sure how many years behind I am now, but I will slowly make my way through the ones I have! Very very slowly....

Ha ha, that's one of my complaints - - Goodreads cuts into my reading time. But it's soooo fun to interact with other readers, so cutting it out is just not going to happen. Now, if I watched less baseball I could probably read 100 books, but who are we kidding?

So far I'm way behind my goal of 80 books this year. I've read 48, which means I'm at least 16 books behind schedule and 15 of those 48 books were actually just shorts from the Levar Burton Reads podcast.
So really, I'm really 31 books behind schedule. This has been one of my worst years for reading ever. I'm trying to make the time to correct that.
...and of course instead of picking something short to catch up, I started a 1000+ page book, as if I wasn't already behind.

Honestly, it's partly a matter of prioritizing reading time. I'm a librarian and am surrounded by books, but I still fall into reading lapses because I get busy with other things. My husband and I have started intentionally carving out space in the evening before bed to sit and read, and that does wonders because you start getting reading momentum, which helps propel you into more reading.

Still can't bring myself to do this even though I completely agree.

I read at different times throughout the day, but always right before I go to sleep. Of course, I have to read calmer books then, so it does not keep me awake - scary and exciting books are for earlier in the day. Unless a book has a satisfying conclusion, then I can read it if I will finish it before sleeping. I have several books going at once, so can judge which one would be best for me to read at night.
And, getting an ebook reader really increased my reading rate - to have hundreds of easy to locate books to choose from, without taking up space.

I made a resolution this year to stop reading a book if I was not enjoying it. Have not regretted that decision, although I did finish a few books that I did not want to, just to complete a challenge, or commitment to buddy read.

Yes, I also found that when I broke free of finishing every book no matter what it was a great thing!

Yes, sometimes I force myself to read books for challenges as well.

This. I am so bad about this. I could read a lot more if I would PUT DOWN CANDY CRUSH.

I do occasionally give up on books, but for some reason feel guilty about it! However, I have been in a bit of a slump this month and finally chucked BOTH my audiobook and paper book and started new ones. Made all the difference and now I am flying through books again!
I may still get back to one of the books I gave up on at some point. I think I would like it more if I were just in a different head space.
