I thought Rothfuss was so big on math and science...what’s up with a magical explanation of the moon instead of orbit?

Michael Targaryen I’m baffled...is this like discworld?

David Franco Both books always keep coming and going between magic and science, it really not bothered me that the moon was on the magical side of things.

And we have to remember that maybe the moon on his world really depends on magic, not physical laws.

Ariel Part of the fun of fantasy and science fiction is that we get to play with ideas, whether or not they are true in the real world. I like stories where magic is a true thing, even though I know that in this world it doesn't really exist. I would like to think that fairies exist, although I know that in my experience of this world they are highly improbable beings. Fiction lets us escape from reality while exploring feelings that are real. It's the best way to practice life. Explaining the moon magically is an ancient art form, and always makes for great entertainment, whether around a campfire, or in the pages of a novel
