George Steinbeck’s novella Of Mice and Men is one of the most remarkable works of literature I have ever read. The story follows two migrant workers, George and Lennie, as they start anew on a farm in California. Within the first few pages it becomes apparent that George is more of a guardian to Lennie, who is mentally challenged, than a friend, as he requires constant supervision. This is because Lennie is unable to grasp basic social decorum and occasionally puts himself or others in danger. Steinbeck's writing gives the story a simplistic tone, even when dealing with complex issues, such as race. Using simple sentence structure and informal dialogue, he makes his novel approachable to all readers. The novella starts fairly uneventfully; however, it soon becomes fast-paced as George is faced with an overwhelming dilemma regarding Lennie's well-being. This book is perfect for anyone wanting a brief read that incorporates heart-break, anger, and loyalty.

It's a great story. Kind of depressing end but a good story overall! Steinbeck is a great author.
