This weekend I'll be heading to Greenville, SC, to see my brother and hit The Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Booksale, a weekend long event. If you're there, I'll be the guy scarfing all the SF books. I'll also be hitting Mr. K's, a really nice bookstore in town. When not buying books, I'll be at my brother's sampling his home-made mead and muching on boiled peanuts.

Anyway, the booksale is being held as a fund-raiser, money used for adult literacy programs. If you are in the area, check it out. Just google Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Booksale, Greenville.

Hope you make it!!

TRIP REPORT:

Super fun trip. I hit 3 used bookstores as well as the sale. Made it home with about 150 books, including a signed copy of Through the Eye of the Needle by Hal Clement, a bunch of Ace doubles, a big stack of van Vogt, some Asimov I needed, a first edition of Anatomy of Wonder by Barron, bunch of early Star Trek books (but, alas, not the one by Mack Reynolds), a vol. 1 no. 1 of a digest ed. by Fred Pohl (can't recall the name...it was sf from overseas, my bet is it only saw 1 issue), absolutely too much cool stuff to name, all of it cheaper than dust on Arakis.

At the Really Big, Really Cheap, Really Good booksale, the pre-party lasted about 2 1/2 hours. After 45 minutes I had blown my spending cash, the balance of the time spent visiting frends made at the sale the year before, and my brother and I trying to get back the steep price of the tickets at the free bar (the beer wasn't cold as it should have been...my only complaint). The selection of SF was much bigger and of higher quality than last year...I suspect some well-meaning mothers donated a few collections while their kids were away at College. Where ever the books came from, someone had good taste in SF.

Took a bad fall when we got home from the sale...no I wasn't drunk (that much anyway). Just a simple case of trying to carry too dang many books in one load. Busted my bad knee, but after a ice pack and a good night's sleep I was fine. Most importantly, only 1 dust jacket was slightly damaged.

Rest of the weekend was spent doing family stuff, a good time being had by all. I'm back home now, wondering where I'm goting to fit in a new bookshelf....
