Book was read in early 2000s, maybe published between 1990s-2000s?
Story is about an adolescent, orphan boy who has died twice (?) or cannot die and who does not need to sleep and who breaks into people’s homes at night to observe them. I think it is set in New England (or maybe the Pacific Northwest).

It was a one-off book at the time. I am hoping it became a series. If I recall correctly, it is a fiction/mystery book with sci-fi/fantasy aspects as it was written in the modern world. I do not recall other characters in the book. I think it was set in a modern New England small town and there was a crime/mystery aspect to the story
