Kara Jorgensen (karajorgensen) | 2 comments Hi, everyone! My name is Kara Jorgensen, and I am an indie author who writes steampunk stories set in an alternate universe version of 1890s London (among other places). Even though the stories are set in the past, I like to include a bit about LGBT rights in them. My second book, which is coming out in 2015, The Winter Garden, follows a gay couple thrown into the path of a madman seeking fame, fortune, and the key to reviving the dead.

I have been reading science fiction for years, but recently, I have gotten into steampunk and light science fiction more than things involving space or the future. I'm not only a scifi geek who loves Doctor Who, Torchwood, Firefly, and Faceoff, I love literature. Outside of writing, I am a graduate student studying creative writing, and I have bachelors degrees in biology and English, so scifi is a logical marriage of those topics. In terms of gay scifi, I want a book with a storyline rather than thinly veiled erotica. I want diverse characters who are gay, but I want them to be more than just gay characters.

Hi Kara. Welcome.

Please be sure to add your gay scifi books (and other gay scifi you like) to our bookshelf, and add them to the appropriate sub-shelves as well. I was persuaded to add a steampunk shelf (as long as it is scifi steampunk), so perhaps it was just in time.

Kara Jorgensen (karajorgensen) | 2 comments Thanks! I'm just not sure if I should add the first book to the shelf since it features only LGBT side characters unlike the second book, which isn't out yet.

Yeah, it's a judgment call I guess.
