It wasn't too bad. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a great job. I started the book having only some idea about the plot, like I had watched the movie trailor ages ago when it had come out. The start to about 60% I was intrigued by the plot, but then lost interest for a bit. The characters I did find interesting. Sometimes I questioned what Jacob and his father were doing though
I don't think I'll be reading the next book

How did you find it?

I enjoyed it, but had the exact same experience where I lost interest around the middle of the book for a bit. I have the next 2 on my TBR list, but clearly didn't enjoy it enough for me to pick it up and read...

Suzanne | 5417 comments Week 3 Word Announced

Our week 3 word is:

TRAVEL

It'll be the same thing with timing, where there will be a time for us to have our CAULDRON books finished, then an hour "break" then TRAVEL will start.

message 555: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Oh and I just realized book I've been struggling to find time to start this week has a V - that gives me a perfect procrastination excuse :)

message 556: by Lexi (last edited Nov 08, 2018 08:40AM) (new)

Lexi | 4247 comments The BOM is a short book so I will read it in one day and it has a Victor. There will be lots of V's for anyone else reading it.

message 557: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Almost every single book I've read in the last two weeks has had V, T and E characters. That will of course stop at 5 p.m. Central on Saturday. :D

message 558: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Allison Ann that totally made me laugh. So true!!

message 559: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4247 comments We need:
Genre - should be easy but need to check letters as most are non-fiction
Word - very easy
Cover - what exactly does travel look like on a cover? A mode of travel?
Title - does it include traveling or only travel(s)

message 560: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I have Travels with Charley In Search of America by John Steinbeck that would work for word or...possibly travel on cover since there is a truck and a road looking to the distance. I too am not 100% sure of what "travel" looks like on the cover :)

I just checked the captains group and Sonia said travel on cover can be any form of transportation or trip. Covers with plane or car or bags and suitcases... anything that says going somewhere. Even something like On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta is acceptable

Karen ⊰✿ | 16593 comments Mod
Travel in title can be plural, but no other alteration (so it can’t be travelling)

message 563: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I have a bunch of Bill Bryson books that would all work for travel as genre. As I understand, non-fiction can't be used for character names, but at least The Road to Little Dribbling: Adventures of an American in Britain would work for T or R.

message 564: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I'm not a fan of YA but the first travel on cover that sprang to mind was Paper Towns by John Green - the map signifies travel to me. Don't know if anyone would want to read it though. I don't (not sure if I made that clear :D )

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6397 comments Completion: Kaleb (Alluring Indulgence, #1) by Nicole Edwards 290 pages kindle

I've got one more for this week - Her Cowboy Protector by Roxie Rivera for letters R C N

For Travel I have quite a few V books.

IMPORTANT
About the end of week 2

When week three begins, the spreadsheets for week 2 will be locked. That means that Suzanne and I need to get everything in order on our spreadsheets PRIOR to the deadline. So... for our team.. your deadline for posting read books for week 2 is 9pm Lisbon time, Saturday.
That gives Suzanne and I an hour to double check everything. PLEASE DO NOT FINISH ANY BOOKS BETWEEN 9PM AND 10PM LISBON TIME SATURDAY. If you do, we may not see them in time, and they then may not be able to be used for the challenge and that would be sad.!
You CAN read books and FINISH them in week 3 (from 10.01pm Lisbon time Saturday) for them to count for TRAVEL.

Here are the times in some major cities:

OOGIE BOOGIE WEEK 2 POSTING DEADLINE

San Francisco Saturday 10 November 1pm
Chicago Saturday 10 November 3pm
New York Saturday 10 November 4pm
Lisbon Saturday 10 November 9pm
London Saturday 10 November 9pm
Paris Saturday 10 November 10pm
New Delhi Sunday 11 November 2.30am
Manila Sunday 11 November 5am
Tokyo Sunday 11 November 6am
Brisbane Sunday 11 November 7am
Sydney Sunday 11 November 8am
Auckland Sunday 11 November 10am

NOTE: Times are different to other weeks in the challenge due to the start/end of daylight savings

Fair enough, Chava. I think it's more of a children's book than a young adult one as it's been described as. Probably is another reason why I struggled. I hope the next two are better... the ratings on GR are a bit higher

Girl! You gotta try her! Her heroines are sassy, but lovable & her imagination is outstanding! This one is in a reimagined southwest/Mexico. It's dystopian, magical with good action sequences. So not quite a western, but with gunfighter elements. It's very different from her others, but still has her trademark snappy patter! Awesome!

For Travel on the cover, does it need to be a mode of travel or could it be a map?

Another question. If there is an I, O, U, Y, or Z in the mix do those letters still count towards that goal?

Mine was Witches MPG and not on cover if that matters.

message 598: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I was thinking last night/this morning how great it is to have everyone so actively looking for things like Cauldron on cover :) Great teamwork!

I finished my "Diplomatic Immunity" book that I'll put into the spreadsheet. I MAY be able to finish my other book before the cut-off - we'll see how the morning goes.
