How are things shaping up for this month for you?

Me, I am on the third time having to restart Memories of Ice as I have been sick on and off for about 3 months. BUT I am very much enjoying it now that I've regained much of my concentration!

I'm also listening to Ravencry, and will be catching up on Drenai shortly

Beste | 1163 comments I will be re-reading HP series with Charlie this month and the next. There are also 2 George Orwell books, Animal farm which I will re-read and 1984.
I've read The Magicians' Guild and The Novice before but I'll re-read them too because when I tried reading the 3rd book I was like who is this and who was that all the while until page 10:) then I dropped.
Sad story..Effects of aging..

Rob (priam_agrivar) | 2418 comments Trying to piece out my October readings..

Currently reading -

The Lightning Thief - reading at night to the kids.
Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians
Conspirataon audio about 10% in.
Servant of the Crown - short story buddy read.

Out from Library:
The Labyrinth of the Spirits - Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Bloody Rose - Eames - just got notice this is in at the library for me today!

Upcoming Buddy Reads
10/5 Night of Knives
10/07 Murder at the Kinnen Hotel
10/14 Hope's End
10/21 The Girl of Hrusch Avenue
10/28 Green-Eyed Vipers

Ideally I need to knock off Conspirata and Alcatraz before Knives starts up. :) I think I got enough on my plate. I know if I don't read Zafon or Eames quickly, I won't be able to renew them though!

Tammie, I wish I liked Green Rider more - the new covers always make me second guess myself haha. Hope it's good!

Also, I've read Control by Lydia Kang and saw her on a panel once. I like it ^_^, so hopefully her new one is just as good! (Waiting for your reviews...).

The cover to the Green Rider book is beautiful.

I read Control too and liked it, so hopefully Toxic is good. The description sounds really interesting.

Narilka | 5731 comments Two carry overs from Sept:
The Skull Throne
The Land You Never Leave - I am absolutely in love with this book at the moment

BRs:
The Core
Traitor's Blade
Siege and Storm
Sweep in Peace

Other semi-planned:
The Boy on the Bridge
Private Lies
Terms of Enlistment

And I need another audio book for when I finish the Angus Watson one above. I have no idea what sounds good at the moment.

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments I'm in the middle of the Frontlines series. Fun military SF. I really like the main characters and Luke Daniels is doing a great job narrating the books.

Finished Scourge of the Betrayer & excited to enjoy the book. It wasn't quite what I was expecting and that's great. I am definitely hooked to see how the other books go.

I tried Too Like the Lightning in audio and the narrator would be fine if he was narrating one character. But he's not. There are several and you can't tell when he switches characters. I need to get my hands on a print copy. I think I won't mind the talking to the audience mode as much if I read it.

message 12: by RuinEleint (new)

RuinEleint I am reading The Sky is Yours by Chandler Klang Smith and I am extremely annoyed by it. Book started off ok, in a fascinating world with good ideas but it has degenerated into utter turgidity. 2 out of the 3 characters are obnoxious and irritating. The third is confusing yet interesting, but gets almost no page time.

I should really drop this, but I am stubborn about finishing books.

Line (lineh) | 1 comments Hello Everyone...I'm currently reading -- Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake. Not a page turner.. but interesting characters. Because I'm also reading other books, this one might take awhile. Cheers

Narilka | 5731 comments Like Daniels is a fantastic narrator. I think I’ll look up that series when I get home. Thanks for the suggestion Soo!

Terms of Enlistment is the first book. The whole series, including shorts, are on Kindle Unlimited as Read & Listen.

Narilka | 5731 comments Terms of Enlistment is queued up :) Probably start it tomorrow.

message 18: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments The series is a ton of action but I really like the main character Andrew and the other side characters a lot. You will root for them. =D

Any particular reason why you've chosen the Great Hunt to reread, out of any other in the Wheel of Time series? I'm curious! I'm tempted to reread the whole series myself honestly.. It's been a few years.

I read the traitor baru when it came out. I have mixed feelings about it but would like to do a reread and then follow with the second at some point. Maybe a 2019 thing.

My hold for the second Powder Mage book finally came in AFTER THRER MONTHS OF WAITIG!!!! So I'm reading that. I swear I should've just bought it (looooved the first one), but I kept holding off thinking "maybe today" and then it got to a point where I couldn't let go of sunk costs in the time I'd already waited. lol

Ooh! Also starting the final legion book today by sanderson with Virginie. ^_^

You should jump in on the short stories with us. So far they're all just prequels without spoilers to the rest of the series :)

Soooo tempted! How are you acquiring them? I saw a few clumped together on audible, but am wondering if it would be cheaper to ebook it. :)

9.99 kindle on amazon. they're each like about 70 pages or so long. there are two different bundles. one is cheaper I think. there's also the first one which is available free if you follow the link in the buddy read

Good luck! I hope your second read will be better. I heard it will be a quartet though so there's no rush if you decide to wait even longer for the reread xD

message 31: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments Blade of Tyshalle (The Acts of Caine, #2) by Matthew Woodring Stover was great! I took some time off to read the sequel to Heroes Die but I shouldn't have worried about it. I loved both books and the series is going on my fav list. I really like how the main story arc was started & wrapped up in the two books.

Falling Free (Vorkosigan Saga, #4) by Lois McMaster Bujold is the last Vorkosigan book I need to read and that completes the series for me. About halfway into & it's exactly what I expect from the series: science, politics, business, selfish greed, heart & a sharp prod to think.

Traitor's Blade (Greatcoats, #1) by Sebastien de Castell - Started the audio & it seems like it will be a fun ride. On the fence about the "talking to the audience" part of the narrative. It works for some parts and does not work for others.

Eye of Truth (Agents of the Crown, #1) by Lindsay Buroker - This is on KU & reading it as a BR with a friend. I don't like Zenia but I figure she'll grow on me as the story goes on.

message 32: by Alana (new)

Alana | 20 comments Just picked up a handful of books I want to read this month and asked my husband to pick one for me to start with. So I am reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. A book that has been on my bookshelf for 15 years at least, but I have never read. So, good choice!

I am also hoping to read Frankenstein this month (a nice Halloween read I think), Vicious by V.E. Schwab (my first Schwab book, so we'll see how that goes, I've heard a lot of conflicting reviews of her writing), and lastly Mindhunter by John Douglas, which is non-fiction about the beginnings of the FBIs Serial Crime Unit.

I might have to throw something a bit less spooky/creepy/dark in there as I'm not generally a big horror fan. But we'll see how it goes. I could always do one of the Harry Potter buddy reads - a sure fire pick me up!
