They generally won't grant authorship until something is listed somewhere as at least pre-publication for new authors. Though I'm not sure of any other requirements.
As you say the fanfics will have to be sorted.
Rules regarding changing of author names are pretty rigid. ie if they are originally published under a pen name, that stays as primary author, but the new name can be added to all other editions as secondary author.
A link can be added between author names, though if she claims the profile the librarians cannot do that for her, she'd have to do it or get staff to do it.
I received a message from an (fanfic, and pre-self-publishing) author who had a few questions about making sure their works would be connected. Some of their fan-works are up on goodreads under their pen-name, Immortality22. They are currently working on an original trilogy that they're planning to (self-publish? I think?) on Amazon, which will presumably be under their real name.
From looking at the manual, this would ordinarily be an easy enough fix (linking an author with a pen-name) from what I can tell. Only, since the original works haven't been published yet, there's no records for the books yet, and the author's account is only a general patron account: Deborah Shillito
Is there someone in particular who handles - for lack of a better term - 'vetting' authors, and upgrading the accounts as needed? Is this something that will have to wait until the author has uploaded the works for distribution, and the book pages can be created? If someone more experienced can take a look, I'd appreciate it a lot.
This is the original message from the author:
Hi,
Not sure if you can help me or if what I'm asking is even possible. It's regarding Immortality22's books Uncertainty and The Ripple Effect. When I posted those on achieve of our own (the harry potter\ severus snape) site, I posted it under my pen name. Suddenly, I find out, it's listed here and I love that...even if its just so someone can rate that very early works of mine. Can the name be changed?
I am currently writing a trilogy (gay romance) which should be available in Amazon and such in the new year, but it would be neat to see my very first stuff (fan fiction beginnings) out there.
Anyhow, any suggestions you could give me or point me in would be great.
Thanks,
Deborah [Shillito]
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
Courtney.
Edit: Okay, looking into this a little more, I'm going to contact the author as there are some things' they'll need to straighten out with the fanfics they do have posted - the only stories I can find that match the description are under a different pen-name, and archived by a 3rd party onto AO3. I'm assuming she'll have to straighten that out first?
