I chose this book to be October's fiction mostly because I had seen the movie first. If you're Estonian or a Finn and you see a good movie from either of the countries you will sincerely be surprised. I enjoyed the movie a lot and thought I should give the book a go. If I'm honest with you, the book was a bit of a let down. Maybe it wasn't the best choice for this bookclub, but it was different and I'll let you each judge it for yourselves. The book is about an alcoholic and his adventures while being drunk or mostly hangover. I don't think my mild reaction is a usual one - you will either love it or hate it and it mostly depends on your specific sense of humour. I was drawn to the book because the movie made it seem that being an alcoholic isn't everything a person is, even if alcoholism is what's taking up most of their lives. The book proved it further. Yes, Juha is an alcoholic, but there is no dispair to be found in this book and to me it was a refreshing look on the life and course of this disease. Everything in this story is written through a humourous angle.
