They aren't the focus, but would it be a different book without the animals? Sounds like they are important to moving the plot forward. In that case, the book would count, imho. Elizabeth said it would count, that's two of us and she's "the boss" of the challenge! (But stlll read Ivan.)

I finished And the Ocean Was Our Sky, which is an upside-down telling of Moby Dick, sort of, but from the whale's perspective.

I read several books with animals that I started in September and finished in October. The ones I read exclusively in October wereFollowed by Frost (camels and dogs)

ahhhh what's november's challenge? I'm super excited (and definitely don't have enough books to read, or anything.... eeeeep)
Getting mine in at the last minute. I read The Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway, which has a big fish, some smaller fish, and a bunch of sharks.
