Oh, and not coincidentally, the first novel in my fantasy series is now available in KU:
Brush With Darkness (Arts Reborn: Book I)
Book II will be out very soon, and will start in KU as well. :)
(This could also work out well for books that get chosen for our bi-monthly book club.)

Thanks for doing this, Jamie. Unfortunately, I'm in UK so unable to take advantage but would love to hear feedback from our friends in the US about their experiences with this.

Since I decided to go exclusive with Amazon at the moment, all of my books are available to KU. I did see a spike right at the beginning with about six or seven downloads in one week. Typically with Prime, I had one a month if I was lucky. But I also do frequent free promos and Countdown deals (which I wish were available to all markets, especially Canada!). In fact, tomorrow I have a free promo. Have a look, if you'd like: amazon.com/author/christinamcmullen
Something I just learned today for anyone else who is a KDP dashboard junkie like I am: The units borrowed will show up on your month to date sales chart on the day the borrower gets to 10% as advertised. BUT, your graph will then go back and document the date of borrow as the day you got credit. I have no idea how this is going to work with month to month overlap. I just had three borrows show up today, but the graph shows three different dates last week.
Christina, did they confirm yet when it hits your sales rank? I thought I'd seen that it would be at the moment of the borrow? Or it could be when it hits 10%. I volunteer to be the guinea pig if anyone wants to borrow my book! ;)
No and that's the frustrating part. I see sales today, but my rank hasn't gone up. As it is, with this new graph system, orders come through instantly, but sales are held until the transaction completes, so it's hard to tell when a ranking will change. I really do need to sign up for the trial at least. Then again, I really should be writing. Something tells me unlimited access to books might stall my productivity further.
My ranking hasn't gone up, either, and I'm no longer in the KDP Select program. The individual books show an uptick, but the overall ranking hasn't moved.
You can do the Kris Rusch carrot method... for every (X hours or X000 words) you get to read for one hour at the end of the day. :) I've been known to do that. But right now I'm working on a graphic element for a cover... which is way more time consuming. :)

Here's my book:

This method would work if I had discipline. Actually, I keep a nice Monday through Friday writing schedule normally, so reading is my evening activity. But right now I'm a bit blocked, and I already have tons of books I have yet to read. But since I did vow to read only indie authors this year, KU could prove to be quite helpful in that quest. It may end up being my birthday present to myself later this year.

Sounds like an excellent plan. :) I'd be on it already, if I were in the US. But I've got some indie stuff to read with an ARC and peer edits/beta reads for an anthology right now anyway.

Programs like this and Prime would probably help Amazon immensely in Canada. It seems, at least from my experience, that it's a tough market for Amazon to crack. I get very few bites even on my free promos in the .ca store. Although it was quite amusing when they first opened the dedicated market. I had one of the earliest sales and shot up to something like #30 overall and #1 in my genre. That lasted all of an hour and I may have had one or two sales in the two years since.

FYI, it looks like KU has launched in the UK: https://kdp.amazon.com/community/ann....
Sorry, Jamie, still no Canada. :/

Baby steps. Eventually it will be here. Or not. KOLL still isn't part of Prime here.
But my second book is also in KU, I just forgot to mention it here:
I like it even better than the first. :)

The book is available for sale elsewhere, but Unlimited is only on .com and .co.uk so far.

I bounced the idea off J.A., who agreed it was a good idea.
I'm in Canada, so unfortunately Kindle Unlimited isn't available here yet (and likely not for a while), but if I were in the USA I would absolutely have signed up for the free first month trial and be trying out everyone's books. Even if someone only reads 10% of a book, it still counts as a paid borrow for the author.
