1. How does this book compare to the first one (To Kill a Mockingbird?)

Cindy | 522 comments Not as good, unfortunately. It's still obvious that Lee is a very good writer, but overall the book, although it was good, just never had the magic of "To Kill a Mockingbird."

Barb (deckerbunch) | 227 comments I agree, Cindy. "To Kill a Mockingbird" is considered a classic for a good reason!

I just finished reading all of Cindy's comments. I find that we are almost spot on similar in our thoughts. As you say Barb, TKAM this is a broad based classic and covers many areas and emotions that this type of book can address. Something about the dog that was very sick, and Atticus was so good at shooting, that he has respect from the whole area, and his kids have new respect for their Dad.

In this book, I've read it three times preparatory for our discussion. I'm really glad that M.E. (Marjorie) selected the bookends of these so that we can have this experience. I think Harper Lee is still quite a masterful writer. To age the characters appropriately, I feel she did a really good job.
