I felt like Adam was trying too hard to live up to his brothers Samuel and Joshua. He needed to realize that there's only one Samuel and Joshua, and all he needed to be was Adam. Once he realized that he didn't need to be like his brothers, and concentrated on being Adam everything else fell into place.
