I'm trying to get my first badge for the ZZ - challenge.

I will start today The Ghost Fields. It's been a while since the last monthly challenge I joined, or at least it feels like it, so I am very excited about this one.
I plan to read Das Gespenst von Killingly Hall (can’t put in a link right now, Gespenst = ghost).I’m not sure if I can get to it because of the toppler and all the buddy reads but I will order it today.

I really enjoyed both the book and the movie. Both creeped me out! Alice Krige was awesome in the movie... really scary, I think!
Hello everybody! Thanks for welcoming me!
Hannah wrote: "For younger readers, I reccomend " The Ghost and Mrs.Mewer". This book is also part of a series. It will rack up a few points! Any other suggestions for middle schoolers?"Hannah,
I mentioned Ghost Hawk earlier in the thread, and I think it would be suitable for middle schoolers. It's by Susan Cooper who wrote The Dark is Rising series which I've seen on several middle grade book lists. I've read the series as well, and it's pretty good. Ghost Hawk is a totally different stand alone, but I have high hopes for it. Plus, it gets quite a few points unlike the book I read for the September challenge. LOL
Hannah: Thanks for reminding of the excellent story The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I loved watching the movie so many years ago... over and over. And the book didn't disappoint me.
Hannah, there's also The Ghost of Blackwood Hall and probably several other Nancy Drew books as well. That one just happened to be a clue on Jeopardy tonight.
I located a copy of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir from my library. Depending on what version they send me, I may be able to use it. The hardcopy is only 174 pages. ;o(Debra - I remember watching the movie several times - years ago, and loved the 1960 TV series too. I liked Almeta's review from 2012 - she cried at the end!
I just finished reading Ghost a la Mode]. It's good. If anyone is still looking for a ghost book, I can recommend this one.
So, I had a book lined up with what I had thought was a whole pile of points, but it was only enough to tie Sandra as it turns out, but I was all good with that lolBut, there is no way I can top Ashley's amazing 34 . . . so, change of plan, lets try for the skunk line lol
Lol, Jenn. I was happy about my score, probably my highest ever. But Ashley is beyond my possibilities.
How convenient. I had preordered the audiobook Holy Ghost by John Sandford and started it on trip home tonight.
Janice wrote: "Tricky! Let's say it's across the bottom."This book is rocking the points. Just had a reference to a book title...
I got The Ghost and Mrs. Muir from the library today. The hardback book they sent me only has 174 pages. :o(.

Watch out for The Grass Harp. You may have the same problem.

I seem to be on a roll. Either the books I am trying to read are too short (by mere pages) or they are 4 to 5 hundred pages. Thanks for The Grass Harp warning. I may still get to The Green Mile yet.

If you are able to order by ISBN, 9789997405487 is 181 pages.
I'm reading
and I have a question about the scoring. On the author's website, when asked where she lives, she says she divides her time between Nashville, France and Edinburgh. Would that count for living in Scotland?
I've not been articipating in challenges much recently and my WoF is looking really neglected. So I've just borrowed Marly's Ghost from the open library for the challenge. I love the cover (vibrant red on the pdf!) and it's quite a short read at 176 pages.
I'm also intrigued by the idea of a re-write of Dickens' A Christmas Carol. It's a YA book with mixed reviews, so I'll see how I go. I may hate it... in which case I'll look for something more in my comfort zone (horror for example??)
Re scoring... I may get the wooden spoon this time around (lol).. forgot it was the font that needed to be red..
Sarah wrote: "I don't think I'm going to be able to fit a book in for this challenge unfortunately."That's too bad. Maybe next month you'll have better luck.
I just started mine for this month, Ghost Gifts, and I'm working on finishing my book from last month's challenge now too, Pretty Ugly Lies.
I am not going to get to this challenge this month either, Janice. The book that I own is too long to read in the time left, and the book that I ordered from the library is one page too short for the challenge rules. It is going back. I might even have to return my group read book.
Well, I read Marly's Ghost as planned. It was based closely on A Christmas Carol, so much so, that some of the ghosts' dialogue was taken one to one from the original. The story is about an 18 yr old who has lost his girlfriend and no longer believes in love a d friendship (symbolised by valentine's day). The book was well written, and the fresh take on the original made me realise just how good Dickens' story actually is. I was fascinated at how content had been re-used for the new book, to good effect. In the end, I decided not to use this book for the challenge after all .... I needed a February book for the zodiac challenge and this just fit TOO well.
I then read The Company of Ghosts as well, which is a book aimed at a similar readership to the first.
The Company of Ghosts is a ghost story set on a deserted island off the coast of Scotland. The ghost story has a traditional feel to it and is creepy rather than scary, the ghost benevolent and looking for peace. I loved the spookiness and the descriptions of the setting, although the young heroine was a bit of a wimp on occasion.
I tried to get an audio book from my library to replace the one I got that was too short, but it is still on HOLD as of today. I will not be reading Ghost at Work either.
