Liz (liz_the_librarian) Share 5 books that you really want to read this year.

This week, let's try something different. See the prompt above. I think we've had enough of updating what we're all reading so let's take a short break.

Here are my 5:
Tides of Darkness (World of Warcraft, #3) by Aaron Rosenberg S. by J.J. Abrams Landline by Rainbow Rowell The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss Even White Trash Zombies Get the Blues (White Trash Zombie, #2) by Diana Rowland

message 2: by Jodie (new)

Jodie Reha I don't have 5 yet, but there are two, and both by the same author:

11/22/63 by Stephen King Under the Dome by Stephen King

Their size is daunting!

I just picked up this from a display table at the library; it looks intriguing! (I know; I wasn't going to get any more books until I finished what was on my nightstand, but I can't help myself!):

Summer House with Swimming Pool by Herman Koch

The 5 books that I would like to read this year are:
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks Fun Home A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness

message 4: by Liz (new)

Liz (liz_the_librarian) Rekesha, I really liked the first two on your list! I couldn't finish A Discovery of Witches. I've always heard good things, but there was something about it, I just couldn't get in to. I hope you enjoy it!

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 516 comments There are several authors that I would like to reread and get caught up on (Charles Todd, Anne Perry, Jacqueline Winspear), but these are 5 books that I would like to read this year:
Queen of Hearts (Her Royal Spyness Mysteries, #8) by Rhys Bowen The House of the Four Winds (One Dozen Daughters, #1) by Mercedes Lackey Festive in Death (In Death, #39) by J.D. Robb Murder and Mendelssohn by Kerry Greenwood Guarded (A Tidewater Novel) by Mary Behre

Katie Walton (libraryladykatie) | 16 comments I'm dying to read the next Song of Ice and Fire but it prolly won't be available until at least 2016. So instead I want to read....
1. The Magicians Land by Lev Grossman
2. How They Croaked by Kevin O Malley
3. Salt and Storm by Kendall Kelper.
:)

Tracy (librariansmiles) | 5 comments Rekesha and Liz- I loved A Discovery of Witches- the audio is amazing! I want to listen to the third in the series, The Book of Life. I also want to read the latest Amy Tan and Wally Lamb novels. I would love to re-read all of Octavia Butler's novels too, except there are too many new books to read to make that commitment!

I've been on a Tolkien-kick recently so most of my "really want to read" books are from or about him.

The Return of the Shadow The History of The Lord of the Rings, Part One (The History of Middle-Earth, #6) by J.R.R. Tolkien The Treason of Isengard The History of The Lord of the Rings, Part Two (The History of Middle-earth, #7) by J.R.R. Tolkien Tolkien and the Great War The Threshold of Middle-earth by John Garth Les Miserables (Abridged) by Victor Hugo The Sanctuary by Ted Dekker

Tolkien and the Great War sounds interesting, I might have to check it out.

message 10: by Pattie (new)

Pattie Babbitt Ohhh, I love this discussion thread! So up next for me is Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz . This book won so many awards, they can't put all the seals on the front cover or it wouldn't fit! The second book I want to read this year is Inferno (Robert Langdon, #4) by Dan Brown to cover both the June challenge and August art challenge. Then I want to finally read the book The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass so I can donate it to my middle school library for my kiddos to enjoy. Also on my constant to read list is any of the books that I have at my home that have been signed by the author (the perk of being a middle school librarian is meeting lots of authors at conferences!). I think I am going to start with Freakling (Psi Chronicles, #1) by Lana Krumwiede or 12 Again by Sue Corbett . Last but not least for my five is my back to work car audiobook selection, which I think will be Freddy and Fredericka by Mark Helprin .

I loved Freddy and Fredericka! Pretty bizarre, but a fun read! I hope you enjoy the audio.

message 12: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey My major goal this year is to finish all of Jane Austen's novels! I read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen several years ago, finished Emma by Jane Austen earlier this year, and now I'm halfway through Persuasion by Jane Austen . That means I have these left!
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen Mansfield Park by Jane Austen Lady Susan by Jane Austen

message 13: by Liz (new)

Liz (liz_the_librarian) Looks like everyone has some great titles on the horizon! I have this issue where every time I see a new book, whether it's on the shelf, on goodreads or just mentioned in passing, I want to read it NOW! It's great that I have such a long list of potential books but bad because I'll never get the end of that list!

message 14: by Katie (new)

Katie Walton (libraryladykatie) | 16 comments 4. Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy
5. Queen and Commander by Janine A. Southard

message 15: by Julie (new)

Julie | 130 comments Hmm, this is a tough one, but I guess off the top of my list are reading some books that were made into movies. I try to read a book before seeing the movie, so I guess those would include:
The Help by Kathryn Stockett , The Book Thief by Markus Zusak , Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth , The Fault in Our Stars by John Green , and If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman .

The crazy part is that I know there are some other movies from books that I want to read as well! There are just so many movies based on books these days it is hard to keep up!

I listened to Under the Dome on audio (from the library) & it was great. It's such a big book I didn't think I could hold it while I was readying it. :)

1. Gone Girl
