Hello! My name is Alex and I’m a lifelong learner. If I could, my dream would be to just go back to college and take every available course on every topic for the rest of my life. Sadly that’s not really feasible, so instead I supplement and enrich my love of learning with books. I loved to read in school and had books upon books, and spent more time in the library than doing my homework.

I briefly stopped reading for pleasure during my college days and the first few years of my work life, but about a year ago I realized I desperately missed reading and started to put together my book list on Goodreads and plow through them. Despite my love for reading, I still sometimes find myself putting it off or forgetting about my goals, so I love the idea of being here for a more relaxing and chill place to get some encouragement for reading more.

I majored in Anthropology so my first love in reading is definitely nonfiction; anything about the human condition, like memoirs, history, and cultural analysis is incredibly interesting to me. Beyond that, I also love fantasy and science fiction, politics, historical fiction, and horror.

My favorite genres are family epics (with a good romance) and romantic epics. I also am fond of reading romance novels in general. I'm looking forward to finishing Savage Surrender by Natasha Peters, which I started when I was admitted for mental health issues I was suffering from. My mental health has made me procrastinate my reading a lot more than I use to. But that's okay. I feel like even if I manage to read 2 books this year, that would be a success and that would be something. I feel like getting more involved in the reading community might make me feel more motivated to read more.

I love reading since I was little but around 3 years ago, during the pandemic, I've been in the worse reading slump ever which is why I'm here. I hope to be as active as I can be and get my reading groove back on. I don't use goodreads often but I hope to change that starting today.
