This one has gone on and off my TBR so many times. I'm not a YA fan, but this one sounds so touching.
I read this twice! I love it and recommend it to everyone!
Everyone deserves a standing ovation ... at least once!
August (Auggie) Pullman was born with a facial difference that prevented him from going to a mainstream school -- until now. He's about to enter the 5th grade at Beachler Prep, and if you've ever been the new kid, then you know how hard that can be. The thing is Auggie is just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates that he's just like them, despite appearances? R.J. Palacio has written a modern classic-- a funny, uplifting and incredibly moving novel to read in a single sitting, pass on to others, and remember long after the final page.
I am so touched by this novel. I loved the format the author used to introduce us to each of the main characters and disclose their individual prospectives of Auggie and their interactions. It peeled back the layers of understanding and the difficulties of being seen with judging eyes, talked about behind your back, pushed around, teased, and through it all surrounded by unrelenting love and support from family, of course, and yes, friends!
It was so well done that it was easy to feel these same emotions and even relate to your childhood and moments where perhaps the same or similar incidents happened. Amazing book! Amazing author!
