Can you describe the crime/case they're working on and why they have to become partners? Do they have a different set of skills?
What's the location - country, region, big city/small town?
It is set in the US. I believe it is a big city. I honestly don’t remember the case specifically and it seemed they really partnered together to get the story going. Sorry, I never got a notification that you responded!

This book is in a series so these characters first show up as side characters. I thought his name was Blake but have had no luck searching with that name.
Side character details- She gets kidnapped because her father is very influential in their city. She is at the end of her pregnancy during this book. As the police look for her they end up finding her car in a lake. This is where "Blake" comes in. He has a team of rescue divers and they fish her car out of the lake. Their first meeting is "Blake" standing on the dock watching while they pull her car out of the lake hoping she isn't it. He didn't know she had already be found and rescued. She walks up behind him and asks about her car. He is relieved and intrigued.
Main Character details- It is many years later in their book as main characters. We find out her baby died and that the father became a pro athlete. She still cares about him but is glad the relationship is over since he isn't faithful. She is now a cop herself after being inspired by the people who saved and helped her from the kidnapping. Her and "Blake" end up partnering up for a case and a personal relationship kindles. In the end, she is pregnant again with "Blake" this time but her fear from losing her last baby keeps her from telling him. He finds out and tells her something along the lines of: I don't know why you didn't tell me but I want you. I want the baby. I want us to be a family.
