Kate is so badass I just love her but the writing got me slow, it was so complicated to follow up there were so many actions combine I was confused reading a few chapters. I liked so far all the characters, so glad Derek didn't die -in this one at least-. I don't know what to think about Curran and Kate, I don't ship them but I like the slow burn this is getting, I seriously hope is a slow burn not insta-love, please.

Finished - (view spoiler)[ Nicely done. I didn't think Bono was the guy until the author told me, and he turned out to be quite the villain. I'm also liking the groundwork the author has laid for Curran to be a main part of her life in future books. There is some delightful tension there that I can't wait to see play out. And I'm more intrigued than ever about her bloodline - her father wasn't her father?? (hide spoiler)]

I get my copy of the next book sometime tomorrow. I'll probably start on Friday.

Hmm, I didn't notice that about the writing, but I've been a little brain dead this week. I like Kate too, and I agree about the slow burn vs instalove. Much better for a long series like this one.

Why does Bran keep stealing the maps? and more importantly, why do the shifters only seem to have one copy? Seems like maps would be a good thing to have a bunch of. (hide spoiler)]

Also, that monologue Kate gave Curran about how lonely she was...OMG, I really expected him to DO SOMETHING like tell her she wasn't alone, or maybe hug her - you know SOMETHING! Question: so if she does end up hooking up with Curran at some point, it means she shares her magic with him? Why would her guardian say a one night stand in another town was the best way for her to alleviate her sexual needs - isn't giving power away to a random equally as dangerous as someone you think you know? Finished - (view spoiler)[ Again, not how I pictured it all going down in the end, but I like being surprised. I'm sad that Bran died. I thought the scene with him running after her naked asking for sex in front of Curran was funny. I was kind of hoping he might become a regular character. Oh well. I'm glad that Julie ended up OK too. Kate will be a great "crazy aunt" for her. (hide spoiler)]

I wonder what will happen in the next book. I've already got my copy, I just gotta finish up another book first. I gotta say, I'm really enjoying the series so far. It's not like the books are overly complex or simplistic. They find a nice balance, I think. You?

Finished - OK, for those of you that said you stopped reading at the 3rd book - how could you have done that with THAT juicy epilogue to tempt you???? (view spoiler)[ Juicy indeed! I knew when she made that bet with Curran that she would lose. As far as the rest of the ending goes - 1) glad they kept the stone out of evil hands, 2) glad no one important died, 3) confused/sad that Kate had to expose herself to her father's henchmen in order to win/keep her team safe, especially since she isn't ready or powerful enough to face Roland yet and it doesn't sound like Curran is powerful enough to help her either.

There are a few things I'm wondering about going forward - 1) how does Kate go about getting more powerful? I know she can learn more power words, but that is only one aspect of magic. Doesn't she need more endurance, etc.? How does she get it? 2) Are we certain that her mom is dead? And what kind of supernatural was she? I'm beginning to suspect that she might be alive and being held captive by Roland AND that she was some kind of shifter. I suspect the later because of Curran's being drawn to her in such a powerful way. It seems to go beyond her being sassy and standing up to him. He is treating her like a shifter-mate and that mate-bond thing has to be affecting him on a subliminal level since he doesn't seem to know what she is, etc. -- Just some theories I have. I'm super excited to keep going with this series! It makes me want to drop all my other buddy reads and just focus on this series. I've got the next couple of books ready to go.

As far as the rest of the plot goes - I'm interested that Kate didn't try to negotiate better terms for Saiman's deal. I mean, she indicated that she might leave the Order after this case anyway, and his deal would allow her to continue doing the things she likes AND he probably has a lot he could teach her. I get that she doesn't want to be shackled, but she didn't even try to sweeten the deal. (hide spoiler)]

And the trouble is that I don't see how they are going to reconcile - there really is no compromise for what they both want. Worried because she is right, Roland has to know that someone is ruining his plans in Atlanta, even if he doesn't know about her specifically. As if the Pack wasn't a target enough, with her joining them, they have an even bigger target on their backs. This part with Hugh is interesting though. I'm not certain that his wanting to protect her isn't more than what she assumes. Could he have been convinced by her step-father to try to protect her too? or perhaps he is just disgruntled with Roland's reign? (hide spoiler)] I guess we have to keep reading to find out.

I have to read a few other books before I can pick up the next one in this series. I've got my copy, but I probably won't start it until Monday or so.

I have so many thoughts:

(view spoiler)[Andrea and Raphael are the best!! I ADORED them. If you liked them, you have to read Magic Mourns, it's a short story about them and it's SO great.

I haven't thought about Kate's mom being alive but agree with you guys! it makes sense; she would have to be pretty powerful too, and Roland sounds like the type of villain that would keep her alive and imprisoned.

I also think it's kinda silly Curran haven't figured it out because there were so many clues. I mean, maybe we don't know all the powerful characters/the way the world works but Curran does, he should be able to connect the dots about Kate's story.

What do you guys think about Andrea? I really like her and her friendship with Kate is one of my favorite things. Like Kate can really be herself and let her guard down with Andrea and it changes her personality a little, I like it.

I also love Julie so much and I was so happy we saw her again. Derek is adorable and Curran is favorite too.

Just writing about the series makes me super happy and I want to read the next one right now (I'm waiting for my copy to arrive). (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I don't think I have said it before but I love how funny Kate is. Like I really laugh aloud with her. It makes the book, at least for me, so easy to read. I know we're in the middle of a battle and there's a like a horrible death, but Kate always defuses the tension.

I was super angry with Curran at first, but now I'm intrigued. Is there someone trying to break them apart? I want to fight this person/creature because KATE AND CURRAN DESERVE HAPPINESS, LEAVE THEM ALONE.

I haven't said before, but I love the mix of mythologies in the book. Like they all coexist together and sometimes it gets super confusing, but I don't know, it's fascinating how we can go from Greek to Norse to Chinese.

Anyway, this was kinda long but I'm really enjoying the book!
