If you are willing to place one of your October reading choices in the hands of another person, leave a comment here with at least five books and no more than ten from your TBR shelf. Participants need to leave comments no later than September 24th.

Here's how it will work:
Sophia will match people up and leave a comment with a list of who will choose for whom.
When you see the person you are to pick for, then just look at their list in the above comments and leave a new comment with their name and the book you chose for them by September 30th.

You also need to watch and see what book your person chose from your list for you.
You have the rest of the month to read the book.

So if this sounds like something you would like to do, just comment below leaving your name and list of book choices for someone to pick your October book.

Anji | 291 comments By re-reading Cat Gardiner's Conscience series, I've managed to fill in the final gap in one of my 'alphabet' challenges. Guilty Conscience ended up being my 'G' choice. I've still got my list of author first names to complete, so this list comprises the remaining gaps in that one.

I'm choosing titles to fit in with my self-imposed 'alphabet challenges' and have chosen from some of my 'missing' letters for titles and authors.

1. Heather C. Myers - Swimming in Rain
2. Isabelle Mayfair - Never So Bewitched By Any Woman: A Pride and Prejudice Variation

Going to have to use a bit of licence with my "U", "X" and "Y" choices, as I don't have any published works by an author whose first name begins with those letters. so, here goes:
3. Darcy's Voyageby Kara Lo"U"ise
4. Find Wonder in All Things by Karen M. Co"X"
5. Pride & Prejudice & Assassinations by Leo Charles Ta"Y"lor

I'll probably be having a wander around some of the fan fiction sites as well, as some of my friends here have pointed me in the direction of authors who have names with unusual first letters.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) I'm in! Starting in October I will have a space of my own to retreat into, and can think of no pleasanter way to baptize it than by reading an Austenesque novel.

1. Jack Caldwell, Mr. Darcy Came to Dinner
2. Shannon Winslow, The Persuasion of Miss Jane Austen
3. The Three Weissmanns of Westport by Kathleen Schine
4. The Poignant Sting: Homage to Jane Austen's Emma by Sherwood Smith
5. I Could Write a Book by Karen M. Cox

Glad to read about the space! I've read all 5 listed..a rare moment indeed. One was before GR...DNF. Really liked all the rest.

I drew your name. For your October reading pleasure (I hope, LOL), I am choosing: I Could Write a Book by Karen Cox.

Joan | 8 comments Hello Kirk,

I drew your name. I am choosing Persuade Me (Darcy & Friends, #2) by Juliet Archer. I have not heard of this author or this book. I look forward to reading what you have to say about your choice!

I do hope that I am doing this correctly. If not, I shall try again.

Joan

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Thanks, Sophia! I do love the modern stories. I look forward to it!

Patricia, for you I want to pick No Other Choice: A Pride and Prejudice Novella by Leenie Brown. It's always fun to see the wallflower characters come into their own.

Hi Joan. I simply have to choose the book at the top of your list! Maria Grace's dragon books are wonderful. I can heartily recommend the entire series, including the prequel.

Kirk (goodreadscomkirkc) | 789 comments Glad to do it except the choice was not easy!! No good deed...j/k.
Of the three I've read, they all have merit. I hope you can get to read #s 1-3 in the future. No info on #4. However, I choose #5 based on Wose's review and that there are only 5 reviews in total. And it's a Kindle Unlimited (might not effect you but effects me!). Happy reading!!!

Thanks again Joan!!
Alas, a mixed reaction to this one from me. Some interesting twists and turns. A bit of a strange ending for some of the minor characters. And worse of all...an Anne Elliot who is more than occasionally not so pleasant. Perhaps a little too quick to insult before being insulted (especially her father and siblings...not that they not deserving!). 3.0-3.25

Joan, the prequel is called A Proper Introduction to Dragons. It's about Elizabeth growing up and learning about the dragons who live on the Longbourn estate. So, no Darcy, I'm afraid! Hope you feel better soon.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Thank you, Sophia, for recommending I Could Write a Book for my October read. I liked it well enough but didn't love it, I'm afraid. Doesn't help that I loathe the character of Emma and don't much enjoy southern culture. I gave it four stars for competent writing and because I believe people who have not read the original would find it an interesting story, but for my personal experience it was more of a three.

Yay for one more down, but bummer it wasn't exactly bedazzling for you. Between you, me, and the lamppost, I'm not an Emma the character not the book fan either- but, yes, I do enjoy Karen's writing.

message 48: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) I think Emma perhaps hits too close to home for me--I was just such a smug, opinionated 21-year-old myself, and believed myself superior to others. So it's hard for me to forgive her! Though I finally came around to appreciating the artfulness of the book.

message 49: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 917 comments Mod
I think the way she meddled without a true wish to help Harriet was what did it for me. It was a game to her when she was bored after her companion wasn't there. Her wealth and privilege was not considered when she influenced an obscure poor girl.
Yeah, I might enjoy the book as a whole, but I never have been able to like her until she faces being confronted about it with aplomb and tries to fix it.
(and, that is no reflection on you who see some of Emma in you). The one I have in me and don't like it is Elizabeth Bennet's snap judgments.

Read my spooky read, Jeanne.

It was pretty good. I gave it a 4 star, but probably more a 3.5- still a decent one that I enjoyed. :) Thanks for picking it.
