I have made it to chapter 9. It is interesting in how dated the vocabulary, including swear words. Less amusing is its approach to the treatment of women and consent. I didn't read this in high school so this is my first time reading it. (view spoiler)
I am now at Chapter 18. So it isn't that nothing happens in this book, things happen but the main character is really, annoying. (view spoiler)
Chapter 24. I think so far the only redeemable part about the narrator is his interactions with his sister Phoebe. I enjoy their interactions and how he respects. her.
Done. Well, I enjoyed the ending with Phoebe. It fit the character arc. It is also a good reminder as a book as a whole how much the 1950s are not nostalgic for women.

J.D. Salinger's classic novel of teenage angst and rebellion was first published in 1951. The novel was included on Time's 2005 list of the 100 best English-language novels written since 1923. It was named by Modern Library and its readers as one of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. It has been frequently challenged in the court for its liberal use of profanity and portrayal of sexuality and in the 1950's and 60's it was the novel that every teenage boy wants to read.
