ABANDONED. about a monster that took the main character away from his family when he was a child but the monster took him to a utopian society with other children from the same village/town.

sorry for the vague details but the cover was blue (had something to do with mountains) and the monster would come regularly to take people from the village/town. After the main character spent some time with the monster he came back to the village (i think) with some of his memories gone. Plus when the monster took the child the parents had to choose between their children(Sorry I not that sure about that part).

Some of this sounds like Wolves of the Calla possibly this edition or this edition . Children are taken away, only one from a family, and then later come back mentally damaged in some way. About when did you read or see this?

I read an excerpt of it 4 years ago and I'm pretty sure it wasn't it because in this book a pack of wolves abducts the children whereas in the book I'm looking for one giant abducts them.
