Was Leah's father a double agent or just guilty of saving a Chinese girl who reminded him of his daughter? Did he commit suicide to escape arrest? Doesn't sound like something he would really do.

I didn't think he was a double agent although his Chinese agent was. His crime was arranging her exfil, which he did because of his feelings for her and which was a "crime" to the CIA. Finally, since espionage is not a math problem, we're not to know fully if he killed himself or was killed. Regardless his agent had been able to get out of China safely.
