Sidecar Crush (Bootleg Springs #2) by Claire Kingsley
Date Read: 10/14
Rating: ★★★★

Leah Mae and Jameson's story started out a little slow but I enjoyed their journey together. Kelvin was a jerk so I was glad she got rid of him. The Bodine family is very entertaining, especially when they deliver Bootleg justice to anyone who deserves it. This series has been my introduction to the writing of Claire Kingsley and Lucy Score, and I plan to check out their backlists for more books. I am looking forward to Bowie's story in the next Bootleg Springs book later this year.

State Secrets & Tall, Dark ... Westmoreland! by Linda Lael Miller
State Secrets & Tall, Dark ... Westmoreland! By Linda Lael Miller & Brenda Jackson

Completed: 10/15

Rated : 3 stars
Review: The theme of both of these stories seemed to be government. The first story was about the Female MC falling in love with a secret service agent for the Potus. And the second story was about female MC falling for the man who is running against her father in a senate race. I liked both of these stories, I think the first story was slightly better. I thought that both stories could have benefited by being slightly longer. I felt that both authors had good plots, but the stories seemed rushed. I like the characters to both stories. Though I had some issues with the stories, I would pick up books from both of these authors again.

Book: A Touch of Greek (Out of Olympus, #1) by Tina Folsom A Touch of Greek by Tina Folsom
Finished: 16/10/18
Rating: 4★s
Review: Triton is an amoral himbo who has slept his way around most of the females living in Olympus – a step too far has him stripped of his powers by Zeus and banished to earth to live as a human until he can find a woman who will love him not because of his appearance but because of his kindness and selflessness, only then his power will come back. Sophia is temporarily blind after an operation and Triton tricks her into believing he is a home health care worker. Throw in an evil cousin who wants to get his hands on Sophia’s inheritance, and gods who want Triton to fail this fantasy romance is very entertaining.

Irresistible Forces (Forged of Steele, #5) by Brenda Jackson
Book: Irresistible Forces - Brenda Jackson
How it fits: position 30; added Feb 9, 2013
Pages: 249
Date Read: 10.18
Rating: ★★★
Review:
This was a super quick and easy read, didn't feel like it was 250ish pages. It was easy because it was followed the formula perfectly and I knew exactly what was going to happen. Doesn't make for an exciting read but at least an angst free one. Even though the 'let's get together just to make a baby' trope was predictable, I was a little irritated with both characters inner dialogue. Both characters were falling for each other, of course, and wanted to fight it but I just got tired of it. I was glad when they actually got through the baby making part (read smexy part) because I was glad to have their thought processes focus on something else. I'm reading this series for other challenges, so I'll keep at it for another few, but the author doesn't offer much deviation from the trope formulas.

The Cove (FBI Thriller #1) by Catherine Coulter
Date Read: 10/18
Rating: ★★★

This book was mediocre for me. The suspense angle of the plot was a little far-fetched and creepy at times. I didn't really like Sally's character until later in the book. Her romance with James seemed flat as well. I own some of the later books in the series and I am usually picky about reading series books in order, so I will probably read the next one at some point.

Raine (raine_renner) | 379 comments Sorry that my #6 selection was taking forever. Work was busy this week.

FYI - since I had about 28k books on my TBR, I was no longer able to access all those books and kept getting the 'Alice' page. So a few months ago I had to start moving my books over to separate 'exclusive' shelves and grouped them by oldest added. That is the shelf that I did my pick for Week #6 as my current TBR shelf only has about 200 books.

Also, since I have so many books my shelves no longer show the position number and it looks like the position numberings on my current (pared down) TBR shelf is messed up so I had to manually count the placement of the book I picked.

message 162: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 5097 comments I had to manually count, too, Raine. Not sure how those position numbers work. I thought it was the order you added the book but apparently that's not it, or at least not totally.

Review:
The series makes me really uncomfortable from a faith perspective, but from a purely fictional perspective, it is worth the 4 stars. And even in my uncomfort, the author has made me sympathetic to Soren overall, and in this book in particular, root for him to succeed in 'not getting caught.' I love all the characters, they are broken and complex but whole together. I will continue the series because the author has made me care for them, even though I don't agree with the author's handling of Soren. For me, his and Nora's situation is wrong but within the bounds of the world the author has built, she succeeds in making me care for them in spite of myself.

Review: Lucianna is the 3rd book in Bertrice Smalls Silk Merchant series. I have read the first book in this series. I have to say that I'm rather disappointed in this book. I found this book rather boring compared to the other one I read. I was half way through the book before the story line picked up. Me being the history buff, I did like the s/l with the Tudors. I liked the portrayals of both Henry VII and Margaret Beaufort. The background history given was all accurate. Even though this was a miss for me, hopefully her book on "Serena" will come out one day.

Review:
The story was good, but of course, we have to wait for the rest of the story in the next book. I kinda wish that the entire story was written in their own books without having to read them in order. I probably don't have to read them in order, but I feel like if I don't then I'm missing something.

I like that it is a friends-to-lovers story, but I'm not sure I'm a fan that she is his ex's sister. I'm usually not a fan of that. Though the sex scenes were fantastic (as all Olivia Cunning books are), but this only resulted in a 3 stars for me.

This was a cute read. Aiden and Emma were fun characters and they had great chemistry. I found it annoying that Emma kept bringing up Aiden's wealth though. There were a few silly moments, but the overall humor made it an entertaining read. I have read a cowboy romance series and the first book of the Nerd series by Vicki Lewis Thompson, but this is the first of her paranormal romances that I have read. I enjoyed this one and will continue with the series.

With their arrival in the quiet town of seaside to escape the life of superstars we discover how Nat feels about each brother and which one she will end up with. I rated 2 stars as there were some parts that didn’t quite make sense to me. It is obvious that this is one of RVDs earlier works as it doesn’t have the plot development she is good at.

Review: I fell in love with Marcus and Honoria from the very first chapter. I think Julia Quinn is one of my favourite Historical authors. Honoria is part of the Smyth-Smith family and every year 4 of the unmarried girls holds a musical soiree. Trouble is, none of them have any talent whatsoever.

After eighteen years, no one attended a Smythe-Smith musical without some inkling of the horrors that lay ahead.

Set against a background of the latest musical production – Honoria is anxious to marry this season so she never has to endure another one. Marcus has been charged by her brother to not let her marry any undesirable man. Neither thinks the other is the answer to their problem.

A great story with very humorous dialogue – had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion. I am looking forwards to working my way through the rest of this series.

Summary: This is the first book in the book in Maya Rodale's writer girls series. I really wanted to liked how the book started, but the more I progressed in this story, the more it was a chore to keep reading. I found the hero in this extremely annoying. He spends 90% convincing himself that he is doing the right thing in marry Clarissa ( The woman he doesn't love, but is only engaged to out of duty). That he is better off without the complications when that loving someone's involves. I found his whole attitude to be beyond selfish though he think he is being noble in this. Towards the end of the book I was feeling like Sophie deserved better. There was apart of me that wished that she had ended with the Prince instead of Clarissa. Plus, I felt that the book was way to long. There was several scenes that didn't need to be included.

This was a really good story of having love, losing it, then finding love with someone else. Ben is such a wonderful character - so very patient and understanding. Lizzy was ok. I didn't like her as much as Ben because she was so whiney and so wishy-washy. I understand that she was grieving, but she was kinda annoying.
