When I was in Jr. High or High School (I graduated in 91) I ready my first post-apocalyptic book and I would love to read the same book again as an adult. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the name of the book was and am hoping maybe it sounds familiar to someone here.
Here is what I remember. * Story takes place in an urban area. I remember it as being St. Louis, but since I'm from the area, I may have just imprinted myself on the story. * There is a nuclear attack on the US and the city where the story takes place ends up being in a clear zone. * At some point, jewels/silver is brought into the city that is tainted by radiation. * There is one person who had stockpiled large amounts of food and other survival items and trades them for expensive non-survival items. * The most distinct thing I remember is near the end of the book, they have a ice cream truck or other similar delivery truck that they use, with their limited gas, to try and lure out some bad guy to attack them. (Don't remember the details here.)
Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully one of you remembers it.
