I had the opposite reaction -- saw the show first, loved it, and then read the book and couldn't stand it. It wasn't because of the show, though. I didn't think it was very well written.

Right. I have had the book on order for a couple of months and was worried I might have to buy another copy. But it came in Friday. Fate, I guess

Hi Nancy - I'm just seeing this, but was anticipating Raven Black would win based on the poll, so no you don't need to contact me :). I read this in print ( and have read all of the Shetland books, the latest to come out soon) and will listen to it for a reread for the discussion. Thanks!

Me too Patty - so many changes were made from the books for the tv show, although once I got over that I think it stood on its own as a good series.

I see Nancy had the opposite reaction, which I can easily see. I'm looking forward to a good discussion because I know these books are not everyone's cuppa! I like them a lot to varying degrees.

the best kind of discussion (not everyone's cuppa vs everyone's cuppa)! If everyone liked everything everyone else liked, that would be no fun.

Hi Suzy; I'm waiting for my copy to come by mail. I love this series.

Bill -- I'm getting a lot of responses from people who are looking forward to reading Stabenow! Just thought you'd like to know.

I've just started it. Find myself wondering if I've read it before. Vaguely familiar so far but am still at the beginning.

Don't read too fast, 10 days before discussion starts.. ;0)

Kimiko | 88 comments I own and have read all the Dana Stabenow books (Kate Shugak, protagonist) and am now reading her Liam Campbell series. Can I still get in on the discussion even though I've read it? Maybe a quick re-read would help? Thanks!!

Of course you can. I'll have a thread for non spoiler type comments and one for those who've read it and want to comment more in depth with freedom to use spoilers.. :)

I've read the first two of the series. Enjoyed the debut book very much, the 2nd was good but stretched my believability at times.

where's it shipping from, Skye?

message 74: by Skye (new)

Skye | 2105 comments Believe it or not, Buffalo, NY. I usually place an order to the mid-west, and it gets here in record time. I just wrote to them.

ALLEN | 4532 comments Is it some affiliate of BWB? They can be painfully slow.

Did they give you a tracking number? I don't buy from anyone who doesn't provide one.

Yes, the first in the series! #8, Wild Fire is scheduled to be published next week. Can't wait to clear the holds list at the library.
