I read The Diary of a Young Girl in Amsterdam the night before going to the Anne Frank house and The Shadow of the Wind in BarcelonaFor S+L books, Altered Carbon has large sections that take place in a non-recognizable Mission District in SF where I live
^^ Wizard of the Pigeons is set in Seattle and is awesome. An unreliable narrator who is plausibly either a wizard under restrictions, or maybe just a homeless guy with delusions. The Schrodinger's box remains tantalizingly closed for most of the book.

I will remember not to read Papillon simultaneously (but it's been on my "to read" list since my first trip to French Guiana). ;)
