After a quick break for water and orange slices to refresh and gather our thoughts, the Hufflepuff team think a ceasefire sounds good. They want to watch the seekers flying in the increasing evening gloom.

They've put in a request to the house elves to bring out a suitable selection of food for the teams and spectators - none for the seekers though who need to stay sharp for victory!

Sarah's still to make a decision about your knitting and whether it survives!

Team Slytherin thanks Team Hufflepuff for accepting the ceasefire. We wish Sarah good luck in dismantling that super-quality yarn Quaffle.

The elves have already followed up on your request:

Good game, badgers and snakes!! It was exhausting but lots of fun!

Good luck to our seekers :-)

Now, can I get anyone any butter beer or cordial?

I'll take one of those butter beers with please! It'll make a nice companion to my book, which I have been neglecting all day.

With pleasure!

Though I am thinking back now on some of the DROSS I have had to read these past few days.

Souls of Fire - shudder
And the Mrs Fixit! And to add insult to injury, you didn't even make me find out what happened to Becky the mustard heiress!

But My Lady Jane was a fun one to end with :) (ish. I've Katie's MM smut to finish off still)

Anyone else want to share high / low lights?

message 679: by Eldarwen (new)

I have complied and added it to my TBR after I now finally read the synopsis. Sounds fun indeed!

Definitely not going to read the million love triangles our chasers were complaining about with those bride books.

And also certainly not going to read the Mrs. Fix-It series that not only the chasers have now been complaining about but that you've already ranted about during Uno. They sound terrible!

message 684: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) My high point was actually getting a KU subscription for this challenge which was a wonderful discovery and will keep renewing it.

Book wise - Reading the Doctor Who book and rediscovering Lauren Layne.

Low point - The bride books yes but Murder and chocolate cake takes the cake. There was a Josh Lanyon one who's name I forgot - angsty as hell.

Every Prime Day or every other I should say, I take advantage of the KU deal and buy the discounted package. I save soooo much money that way between that and my libraries.

So you can seal him?

So this is going to be huge spoiler :D
It's time of knights and princes. It talks about I think it's 12th century Croatia or whatever the country was back then (something with Hungary)
You are actually following two couples - one is lost princess in love (like most of the women in kingdom) with unknown knight who's protecting her. By unknown I really mean unknown - he never takes of his helmet!
Second guy starts as some kind of highwayman but falls in love with a lady (he's a knight and titled too but as a robber, nobody wants to be connected to him). His love makes him follow her around and finally running away to the sea where he becomes a pirate.
At the same time it shows you history - Croatians trying to become their own country, at the same time royals in Budapest fighting for rule, and constant fear of attack from neighbors (what's today Austria and Czech)
Oh and there is some nutguy burning (mostly) women for religious believes

I want to read this so bad Tea. It sounds really good plus it's your favourite so definitely want to read it!

message 692: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9630 comments I just love 'love' scene in it. Always has me laughing for few minutes :)

So, unknown knight is trying to seduce the queen in hope that that way he'll help his friends in their plans to Croatia becoming own kingdom

After some wooing and lots of plotting he finally finds himself in queens bedchamber (invited). There is some talk about love and devotion, how beautiful she is and so on. Then she asks him to fulfill his promise and take off his helmet. He starts, then she changes her mind because she like this mystery (and she's afraid he's ugly). Then some more talking, him falling on his knees to show how much he loves her. And she asks again to take of his helmet. He offers her to do it, but she changes her mind again. She want's him like this this time, because his helmet so turns her on.

I don't think he ever took his helmet off for her if you don't count it falling away while he was sleeping. At least you don't have any more scenes with two of them alone.

That sounds hilarious, but yes, awesome. And I do like the idea of the mystery, but even more of the fact that she wants him the way he is - appearance basically doesn't matter.

Actually it matters to her greatly. She's obsessed with it. She thinks her self most beautiful woman and is jealous at every other woman that is considered pretty. Her longtime lover is only one not pretty but he helps her to get the power. But other lovers are picked strictly by their looks.
She was honestly afraid that under his helmet he's going to be ugly, scared or even *gasps* old (as in late twenties). If he wasn't young and beautiful, I'm sure she'd have him killed so nobody finds out what he looks like and that she actually allowed someone like that near her.

Drumroll please....

Sarah has finished plowing her lonely furrow!

Quaffle officially broken!

Read The Curse of the Mistwraith

Now, budge up, make some space & give the girl a drink & some snacks!

What is it now, a little over 1hr before the Seeker sprint?

Woohh!! Well done, Sarah! That was a doorstop!!

Not quite 1 hour until seekers are off :-)

message 699: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 974 comments Well congratulations to her for getting through it. I was a bit surprised that's what she chose as it's a long dense fantasy book and Janny Wurts's writing is not for quick reading. I do love her and that was probably my favorite read of this round. I haven't been able to continue the series yet, but I hope to soon.

I highly recommend her other books I've read Sorcerer's Legacy and To Ride Hell’s Chasm. Both are shorter and standalone fantasy books.

Least favorite was The Female Brain. I don't think it needs any more commentary.

message 700: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2146 comments @Natalie - likewise, I was surprised that the temptingly low page count didn't sway you to read my Spitfire Heroines quaffle book until today. ;)
