I feel the same way about those silver round things... I mean, I could transfer them onto my ipod, but how am I supposed listen to them at a faster speed? I like to use hoopla or overdrive as then I can increase it to at least 1.4x. Otherwise I feel like the narrators are speaking... so... sloooooowly...

Ben George | 32 comments @Hope I don't know what iPod you have specifically, but if you tag them as audiobooks before transferring a lot of options show up that are otherwise hidden.

message 153: by Maximum (new)

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments I've got some of my CD audio books sampled in as .mp3s, I recently figured out how to use some Linux command-line tools to convert them into .m4b (Apple's m4a format audiobooks) with chapters and such. It worked out just fine until I had to transfer them into my iPhone (no iTunes for Linux). I had to faff about running a virtualised instance of Windows just to put a book on my phone! I can't wait for the house decorating here to get to the point where I can have my computer lab back up properly, things'll be so easier.

I had a cheap mp3 player that had great playback speed options. But it had other issues, so I got a new one.

I’m listening to my first e-audiobook through Overdrive on my iPad right now, and I love the speed options on that.

message 155: by Maximum (new)

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments Overdrive is great. I listen to lots at 1.75x.
My wife says that’s cheating. Lol

Nah! You read silently at least that fast. This current book I have at 1.25. Any faster is too fast in this case.

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 13 comments Managed another book down. Pandora's Star was excellent and very long. Plan to get the final audiobook on this to read in January. So far, 3 down!!

Hmm... I could look into it but I think my iPod is too old... it's a Nano 5th gen and obsolete according to Apple...

My iPad is obsolete, too. It still feels pretty new to me!

Fannie D'Ascola | 607 comments Finally finish The Way of Kings

It was a 5-stars book for me even if I found the beggining really slow. It took me almost two months to complete, but I was always reading another book at the same time.

I will read the next one in the serie, but not right now.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 3530 comments Mod
Way of Kings has so much setup, but it starts really paying off in the second one.

message 166: by Maximum (new)

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments I found a duplicate on my challenge shelf, so I'm down to 116 books, of which I've read 19. So if my sums are right I've managed to get 16% through the challenge since August. Perhaps I can finish it before the end of 2019. :)

message 167: by Sandy (new)

Sandy | 1665 comments I think that is a good goal - I too have not finished this challenge! I am at 15.7 % and I will call that 16% too Scott. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Maybe it will be 2019 and 2020 for me!

115 i think

message 170: by Maximum (new)

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments I guess we're in the same overloaded boat then, Sandy!

message 171: by Sandy (new)

Sandy | 1665 comments Yes we are - but the thoughts of catching up will keep that boat afloat right?

message 172: by Audrey, Queen of the Potato People (new)

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 3530 comments Mod
But with new books added every month, how are we ever going to catch up?

message 173: by Sandy (new)

Sandy | 1665 comments I am looking to use the old BOM's for the DC challenge. But sometimes - you gotta just bite the bullet and read an extra book. Such hardship.

message 174: by Maximum (new)

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments I had similar thoughts about my Marvel challenge. It'll be my first year playing, so I'll be the guy tripping over his own feet and screwing up the chances for his team mates.

message 175: by Sandy (new)

Sandy | 1665 comments Scott - you will have a lot of fun playing the challenge - I especially like when people put why the book matched the criteria - makes me want to read the book more.

message 176: by Maximum (new)

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments I've just finished The Fifth Season, putting me at 20/116 (17.2%).

I'm going to viciously attack my "Up Next" shelf, which has the next book of each series I've started and lists 43 titles. I think 43 open series is a bit much so going to spend a short while trying to finish off some of them.

I'll come back to my "Catch UP Challenge" shelf in the new year. I've started Half the World, and I'll see if I can close off the Shattered Sea trilogy before the new year.

message 177: by Fannie (new)

Fannie D'Ascola | 607 comments And I'm done with another book for this challenge: We Are Legion - We Are Bob. It was a 5-stars book for me. I listen to the audiobook with a perfect narrator, but I will buy the physical book one day. Just to reread it.

message 178: by Maximum (new)

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments I'm so glad you enjoyed it Fannie. I gave it lots of stars too.

Nikki ~ The Nocturnal Bookworm (nyxreadsstuff) | 9 comments I would really like to do this. Off to take a look at past group reads to see what my list will be. I would like to have read a total at least 100 of what the group has read so first I'm gonna see how many I have read and which I will choose.

Total Group Reads I Have Read: 7/100

Will it be possible to update the number of books? I will be adding more book to this challenge as I can't read them on time every month.

Thank you Rinn, I like this idea also.

Yes, you can update your own challenge any time.

message 188: by Lynne (new)

Lynne | 83 comments Had a look through and was pleasantly surprised that I had just 45 books that I wanted to catchup on.

I've added myself to the challenge paged and it tells me i'm already one book behind schedule so I best get started.

thanks for the push Rinn

message 189: by Jay (new)

Jay (okay_jay) | 50 comments I was actually surprised by how many I HAVE read independently. I'm in for 20, though.
If okay, I will include one I've read this year before joining the challenge.

1. Ender's Game

message 196: by Sam (new)

Still waiting (impatiently) for my library copy to arrive! I should get to it just in time, but if I don't the book will automatically become a part of my catch-up challenge lol

message 197: by Fannie (new)

Fannie D'Ascola | 607 comments And now I'm done with another one toward mt challenge: The Magicians.

I was a bit underwhelmed by that one. The first half was great and then the transition into adulthood, not so much.

I just finished The Fifth Season and was also underwhelmed. I just didn't seem to get into it.

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin | 229 comments Omg! It just too me forever to find my list. I have to remember I’m on page 4 😫. Wait, do we each have a separate thread of our own I don’t know about?
