Thanks scott, much better :). I hate colds that last forever. I’d almost rather have the stomach flu and get it all done in one day. Almost. lol

Since, I'm on either of those teams it might not be helpful. I'm more than willing to be moved if that helps at all. Just putting it here anyway

message 209: by [deleted user] (new)

For some reason, my mind is starting to develop ideas of where to switch so that they can be on the same team.

For real. Here's what I have.

Trade them both to Tome Raiders in exchange for each parting team getting a full set of paperback editions of the Twilight series.

Jaghut Guardians: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Tome Raiders: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Can do an addendum when the Rob/Julia stuff is sorted... shouldn't change my commentary much, and maybe my numbers will help with the Trading...

I was scared to open my app because there were so many new comments... but it's nice! My phone is usually quiet because I don't use much social media and I get stressed if I have to deal with a lot of notifications, but Goodreads is different. It's like being in a friend group all equally obsessed wth books, which is something I've been missing in my life

Goodreads is by far my favourite social media platform, though I also like Instagram. Turning off notifications on other applications is definitely freeing! :)

It's also quickly become my favorite. I've had an account for a few years, but only got into the more social side of it in the past few months and I love it so much. I do also love Tumblr because of all the pretty book pictures but there's not much social to it. Goodreads is far superior on that front :D

Saar The Book owl | 3127 comments Same here. I have my GR - account for a couple of years, but have never been so active like the past year and a half :) I've been cutting back on social media, especially Facebook (I watch it sporadically now) and I must say, I'm much more relaxed.

Kathrine | 1249 comments I wish I could avoid Facebook, but sadly it's used a lot in my age group to coordinate events.. even events related to school. So I can't really be rid of it, unless I want to miss out on a lot of stuff. But I don't use it actively and never post stuff

message 237: by Kathrine (new)

Kathrine | 1249 comments Also re: Facebook and Messenger

I hate how it's expected that you're available always to answer messages. Like, Facebook shows if I'm active and if someone messages me, it's expected that I answer. I've had friends ask me "Why aren't you answering? I can see you're active!" Sometimes, you just don't have the energy to deal with people or messages

message 238: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 3127 comments @Katherine: that's also what I experience. People want you to be always available. I'm an introvert and I really hate it that everyone can reach you.

They generally get the hint when you reply 3-5 days later with no explanation. ;) It's worked for me at least. Sometimes even up to two weeks.

I try to do this if the message is not immediately important, but then sometimes I slip and forget to answer at all, and then when it's been a month I find it awkward to suddenly answer 😂

message 247: by Petrik (last edited Dec 09, 2018 02:38AM) (new)

Petrik (petrikleo) | 1546 comments I have Facebook but I now use it only as a platform for me to talk to authors and vice versa. As good as Goodreads as a social media, if we want to interact with authors, Facebook (unfortunately) and Twitter are the best way to do it.

A lot of authors generally avoid Goodreads. Unless they have a mental of iron (Gwynne, Sullivan, Lawrence, Eames to name a few) that can scroll through 1 star review and "omg this is fucking crap kill the author please" review, they avoid Goodreads like a plague.

I totally understand their reasoning though. We've all seen the 1 star reviews on Goodreads... They can be destructive (mine included) for the authors to read.

Yes, I really admire authors for being able to cope with reviews. I love to write stories, but would never be able to cope with people tearing my book apart. I follow a bunch of authors on twitter and a few of them have given advice to people wanting to be authors. The most common advice after "write" is "don't read reviews"

Yes! It's a very common advice and a true one. Of course most authors would love to know or read positive reviews that could seriously make their days, but going to Goodreads is like "I'm gonna step on a landmine that destroy my own baby." I mean, I can seriously name a few people here with 1 star reviews that could make authors kill themselves if they ever read it with unprepared mentality.

This is why I respect authors on here so much and I am more likely to write even a short review when I loved their book than let's say GRRM or Sanderson (note: I love books by both authors). Authors on GR put in so much effort to interact with their readers and I'm sure they come across plenty of comments putting them down.
