Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds ~ 5 stars

A boy is shot and killed in front of his home, leaving his mother and younger brother grieving.

The younger brother has to follow the rules:
No. 1: Crying....Don't. No matter what. Don't.
No. 2 Snitching...Don't. No matter what. Don't.
No. 3 Revenge...Do. No matter what.

The day after the younger brother gets on the elevator to seek his revenge.....during his trip down 7 floors he encounters people from his past who have all died. Each has a story connected to the person before. Each giving the young boy a chance to think about what he will do once he reaches the bottom floor.

This story (the entire book) takes place in less than 24 hours. The elevator ride is only 60 seconds. Written in verse, this story itself gets to you from the beginning. I really enjoyed it and just wanted to sit and read until I was done.

I liked this one a lot too. Jason Reynolds is one of my favorite young adult/middle grade authors.

Started reading it now - it's longer than I thought. Want to finish it in one sitting, but I have to keep on top of my son who is finishing homework.
