I think I read this book in the early 2000s for a class. I know it was a novel and it had a cover that looks like the cover for Peace Like A River or Snow Falling On Cedars. I'm pretty sure there was a dwarf main character and maybe there was a way but I might also be mixing details. I'd love to re-read it.

Just a sophomore English class. Pretty sure it felt fantastical but was completely historical fiction
