Caitlin Ford (caitfromspace) To be completely honest, this book is really confusing me. I can't tell if I really like it that much yet... We keep jumping around from different characters, and I have no idea where Bailey comes into play. But so far, I really like Celia. She's pretty awesome.

Olivia (expertobsessions) | 5 comments Just started this book today, and I'm already hooked. The writing is beautiful, and the story so far intriguing; definitely different from what I was expecting, but in a good and exciting way! Very interested to see where this goes….

Marie -The Reading Otter (thereadingotter) The first few chapters really hooked me, but now it's just really started to slow down too much.

Cassandra (pelcachay) Not gonna lie, I am freaking LOVING this book so far. The story seems really interesting to me and I'm excited to see where it goes. My favorite character is probably Marco right now, but Celia is a very close second. Also, I thought Celia and Isobel were the same person when Isobel was introduced, but I was wrong, lol. Lastly, I'm quiet intrigued by Bailey and what roll he might be playing in the story. All and all, great novel so far ^_^

Delila Reviews Things And Stuff (dq369) So halfway through the month I finally got past the first part. XD

So far, I honestly don't know what I am feeling. Everything is so mysterious and foggy, in a good way. I constantly feel a sense of wonder as I read each new page. It's a book that I can read and be filled with awe, but then put down and leave the world and be back in the real world. Which seems like it should be a bad thing, but to me it feels like I get to travel between worlds, so it's cool, if that makes sense...

As for favorite characters, so far, Celia is my favorite. I always root for the neglected characters for some reason, and Marco has Isobel, so he isn't totally neglected. (BTW, I ALSO thought that Celia and Isobel were the same person!)

I also really like Bailey. When the author wrote that he felt it unfair for female protagonists to always get whisked away, it really made me think.

I can't say that I am 100% loving the story so far, but I can say this: MAGICAL!!!!

Marci M. (marcisbookshelf) | 1 comments Just finished part one tonight and I am absolutely loving it. Prior to reading it, I was unsure exactly what genre this book was and the first few descriptions of the circus creeped me out, but those feelings went away as I continued. I absolutely love Celia and Marco. I will say at first I though Celia and Isobel were the same person. Also the imagery in this book is phenomenal. The description of the clock that was made sounded absolutely magical and I wish I could actually see it. Also, Celia's audition for the circus was so much fun to read. I can't wait to continue. I'm so curious to find out what exactly the this challenge is, and what the significance of the rings mean. Also, I'm super curious as to why Celia's father turned invisible. There's so much mystery to this book and I LOVE it!!

Natelle Woodworth (tall_telle_tells_tales) | 10 comments I am thouroughly enjoying this book. I love that it jumps back and forth so you are forced to pay attention. I think the writing is phenomenal. I love Marco and Celia. I also thought for a moment that Isobel and Celia were the same person. But I'm glad they are not because it will create a great love triangle I'm sure. There are still several unanswered questions like where is Bailey going to fit into all of this. Is Prospero just invisible? and many more. I love the pace I don't think it's too fast or too slow. I can't wait to find out what happens next! On to part 2!!

Caitlin Ford (caitfromspace) Does anyone else really like the sections with second person perspective? I think it's a really neat touch to the story.

Cristina Drafta (mistakesqueen) | 3 comments Am I the only one who keeps picturing Celia as astrid berges frisbey?
I really love her, but I also love Isobel, she seems like a nice character.I kind of feel bad for her, I don't think that Marco will be truly in love with her till the end...

★Ashli★ (muchfaith22) Just finished part 1...has taken me like 3 days (I have 4 young kiddos). It's interesting, and I like it, but hasn't HOOKED ME IN yet.

I never really thought Isabel and Celia were the same person, I thought maybe so at the very first initial meet, when she was holding Marcos notebook, but not there-after.

I'm kinda confused as to why they faked Prosperos death? Unless it's just cause he's not meaning to become invisible (is this supposed to be spoiler free?! Please let me know if so!)?

Also, wondering who the girl is, that Bailey met inside the circus, is it Isabel? Or Celia? Or someone else...does it even matter?

Abbie Read the first part and it took me some time, even though it's pretty short. I didn't know what to expect going into this, and it is not at all what I thought it would be. So far, I like the settings, the characters, and the writing. Not sure on the plot, but I am intrigued. Looking forward to reading more!

message 62: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy Crabtree (amycrabby) A lot of people are saying how their favourite scenes have been the making of the clock and Celia's audition but nobody has mention the scene where Tsukiko is introduced as I think that is a brilliant scene. As well as when all the guests at the Midnight Dinner are introduced, there was so much detail describing each person and I love that in books as you can truly imagine what's everything looks like. I loved the idea of Mme. Padva's jewels looking like she has a slit throat as well. Very cool.
I can't wait to see how all the separate stories will tie in together and why Celia's dad is turning invisible. Love this book so far!

Lauren | 4 comments Finally finished going through my tbr pile, and now I'm ready to pick this up for a re-read! Thank goodness for road trips and having nothing better to do for 20 hours.

Jacquie Marques (jacquie_fortin) Caitlin wrote: "Does anyone else really like the sections with second person perspective? I think it's a really neat touch to the story."

Yeah I love those bits! I like how it sort of makes the reader a character in the story. It makes me interested to see if "I'm" meant to affect the story at all, or if "I'm" just walking through the tents and taking it all in.

Kendra maidment (kendra_maidment) I am tied between Celia and Marco!

Vikki | 4 comments Very interesting but mysterious so far. I feel bad for the kids. Abuse or neglects. Not exactly what I thought "training" would be.

Meghan | 1 comments I agree with you, Vicki. It just seems so unfair

Conrad (Rad1ne) | 5 comments Just finished Part 1 and I'm quite enjoying the book so far. All the characters are enchanting in there own way.
I think the group has reached a general consensus that the finger cutting was messed up. So was breaking the pigeons neck to prove a point (which reminded me of what happened to Jace in City of Bones, but I think his case was more cruel).
I especially liked the audition scene and how Marco realised how woefully under prepared he was. Did "Alexander" fail to adequately prepare Marco or is the nature of the challenge such that he is actually prepared. There is to much unknown to say for sure.

Mari-Ann I absolutely love it already! I just can't believe I didn't pick it up sooner! I love the story, the setting, the characters and all the magic that's going on.
I might be the only one, but I feel like this book has a similar vibe like in The Shadow of the Wind. Of course they are different books, but I sorta get the same feeling when I read The Shadow of the Wind, which is my all time favorite book and which captivated me the same way like The Night Circus is doing now.
So I'm really excited to read more, to know more what is going to happen :)

Leah (leahrosereads) I really love Celia. She's a wonderful character!

message 71: by Alex (new) - rated it 5 stars

Alex Espino (heretherebeareader) | 8 comments This book is wonderful so far. You can't help feeling sorry for Marco and Celia and wanting both of them to succeed. I also want to know what Bailey's part is, in this madness of a game.

I still have sneaking suspicion that Celia is Isobel. Even after reading about the audition, because in that scene we see Celia changing her hair color. Is it really so far fetched to think that she can change more than her color?

Chanda (xochandaox) Im really enjoying this. Its wonderfully descriptive as well.
stay back isobel stay back *hiss* lol. I have a hunch about the girl who Bailey met was.. *cant wait*
I feel bad for celia.. I like her the best so far. Weird how her dad is vanishing.. I wonder...

Nichole Elizabeth (forsakenfates) Love the 2nd person POV chapters, they make me wish I was at the circus. However, the jumping from character to character can get confusing at times. And I don't like that it isn't in chronological order, but I still love the world that has been created.

Beatrix (beatrixminkov) Reading the first part felt so magical, and I imagined myself being at the circus. I agree with Nichole, the time-jumps + different POV's make it a little confusing from time to time, and the first part was very slow.
It didn't bother me though, because I enjoyed the writing style so much, but now that she has created the world, I would love to see much more happening + characterdevelopment in the next parts! Oh, talking about the characterdevelopment: She described the decor beautifully. But am I the only one who doesn't feel for Marco & Celia (yet?) I have no idea what kind of personalities they have, how they feel, what they think... I hope we will learn more about them in the other parts!

Marta Karpowicz | 6 comments So just finished part one!! I'm enjoying it so far thou time changing and all of this is kinda confusing me. We get wonderful descriptions of many things but not that detailed of character or just info about them and ugh I love to know those things! But oh well I'm used to checking date now all the time heh ALSO am I the only one that's totally imaging it all in a movie form ? Like oh god I can see all shots and asdfghjkl if this book won't be turned to a movie soon I will do it myself !! My favourite character so far I Bailey! I love him so far and I want more of him ! I have a feeling that ginger girl from white glove is Isobel daughter is Celia's hmmmm ?? I'm deeply in love with how Bailey sees things - his thought on female and male protagonists in books and how he said he wants to save someone one day asdfghjkl also his grandmother is really nice ! I feel like Isobel will get hurt my Marco in some way, he's really cool but has potential to be crazy lover. Oh and Celia. Poor Celia. I hope she will kick her dad's ass in future !!!

M. Madsen | 3 comments I honestly don't know how to feel about this book. I don't feel attached to the characters, and the shifting timelines has me recalculating Celia and Marco's age at the start of every chapter. Who am I supposed to be rooting for, anyway? Neither of them have made any emotional impact on me except perhaps to pity them for their upbringings. I enjoy the descriptions, but it seems a pity that the only 'character' I have really grown to like is the Dream Clock.

Lucila (lucy1611) | 3 comments Wow!! At first I was a little confused by the time lapse thing but it certainly got interesting quickly!! Can't wait to continue reading and figure out how each characters story slots in with the others... So far a great book, hopefully this awesomeness continues!!

Marta Karpowicz | 6 comments Oh one more think - I would say Marco was born in 1865 and Celia in 1868. Bailey in 1886. Correct me if my predictions are wrong

Dalia Pimentel (librarytears) I like Celia so far; she has pretty awesome magic. Though I also like Prospero the Enchanter even though he is not great as a fatherly-type guy. I just think he is an interesting character that I want to keep an eye on.

And BTW I really want that clock o.O

Teguh Samudra (teguhs) I picked up paperback version of this book in Half Price Book a couple days ago for only $2 dollars and starts reading it as soon as i got home. So far I'm loving the story although i kinda confused about the lapse of this book. Celia definitely my favorite character. I'm curious about what Isobel is gonna do later in the story.

Dalia Pimentel (librarytears) Teguh wrote: "I picked up paperback version of this book in Half Price Book a couple days ago for only $2 dollars and starts reading it as soon as i got home. So far I'm loving the story although i kinda confuse..."

Ehhh luckyyy I went to Half Price Books yesterday and couldn't find The Night Circus :( So I'm using a library book. And I'm curious about Isobel too.

Conrad (Rad1ne) | 5 comments I seem to be the only one not confused or bothered by the time jumps. If anything it just makes me curious about what role Bailey has to play and for how long the competition/wager goes on for.

Elizabeth | 4 comments Bailey is my favorite character so far! He is really strong willed and I love the whole under-dog vibe about him. I hope he joins the Circus and befriends Celia.

Raquel (Rocki) (raquelrocki) | 2 comments Yea the time jumps were a bit confusing at first but I just make sure I pay attention to the year and it makes it a bit easier.

I love this books so far. The writing is done so beautifully. I think one of the reasons I love this book so much is because I love the circus and now wish that there was a circus like this I could go to at night time.

I am glad I am finally getting to this book I have had this on my shelves now since the beginning of the year I picked up my copy at a good will for like 89 cents or something like that. Its the paperback edition and its in perfect condition. So glad I picked this up.

I love how the book shifts from POV's and time it makes it more interesting and mysterious I think. I also like how descriptive it is when explaining the circus. I wish I was there to see everything.

Hollie (Hollieblog) (-hollieblog) | 3 comments This book is already so beautiful! It reminds of The Prestige and Moulin Rouge mixed together.

Mari Reads (mariginny) Im quite liking this book. my favorite character is celia, but we'll see what happens. can't wait to see what happens!

message 87: by Fien (new) - rated it 4 stars

Fien (touchedbythepage) | 11 comments It feels like everyone else has said what I think of the book. It's written in such a mysterious and dreamlike style that I can't help but love it, even if I don't feel the story quite yet. Probably because we are jumping a lot, making it difficult to orientate and the timeline had me confused for a moment as well. I'll be paying it more attention in the future! I had two favourite parts: the first one being the first chapter "Anticipation". It was so beautifully described that aside from feeling as if I were there, it made me WANT to be there too! The second favourite bit so far was when the clock builder described the clock. It was amazing! I'm not sure who my favourite character is so far. Maybe bailey because I want to find out what he has to do with the Night Circus besides being a spectator. (i also thought Celia and Isobel were the same until Celia auditioned...). I can't wait to see what will happen in part 2.

Gavin | 1 comments Wow! I am loving this book so far. The writing is wonderful and the imagery is so delightful. The mysterious air really me hooked. I can't wait to see how Marco and Celia interact and especially how Bailey works into the story.

Above all, I am loving the second person narrative at the circus, I really feel like I am there and it has such a magical feel to it. I can't wait to see how the rest of the book plays out.

Eleanor Cooper | 1 comments My god I love this book! I've only just finished the first section, but I can't get over how wonderful it is. The descriptions of the circus and the characters are so enchanting, but the bit about the clock was so incredibly written. I can hardly put it down, so I'll probably be finishing it within the next couple of days.
