Since I joined the group June 30th, I thought I would still read twelve books/short stories but use some of the group books in my list, so that I have a hope of finishing this year. Also, I confess that we read The Outsiders every year in my ELA class. I will be reading at work.

Thank you. Oh my that is pressure!! Hee hee. Our principal has organized a "Book Slam". All students in the school, that is 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, will receive a copy ofSink or Swim: A Novel of WWII by Steven Watkins. The students will get to keep the copy, bought with funds provided by local businesses. We will read it for three weeks in August and Math, Science, and Social Studies teachers will incorporate lessons to provide background and support for the book. That's the first one I would mention. Next, we read The Outsiders in Sept. although I know that many schools read it in 7th grade.

Brina I'm pretty sure that he read that already- I will ask. But the WWII book for sure he hasn't and I'm going to get it for him. I love integration of all subjects to make for more meaningful learning. What a great experience for the students.
