Josephine | 401 comments Starting this today! Was encouraged to buy it after Noelle Gallagher’s constant obsession with this book 😂

Atshiga | 11 comments I have to say, I was a bit sceptical before I started reading it because of the age gap, and certain allegations, but without thinking about the author himself, I think this is an incredible book. Words are usually the 'middle man' between emotions but Aciman conveys beautifully what it's like to develop a crush, let alone meet a soulmate.

Have you finished it?

Atshiga | 11 comments Yes. Have you?

Josephine | 401 comments Not yet! Read loads on Monday, but today and yesterday I’ve read almost nothing :(

Atshiga | 11 comments Ahh okay well tell me once you have and then we can discuss!

What do you think so far?

Josephine | 401 comments I like it! It feels like a memoir which is a really interesting concept. I do think the age gap in realistically unrealistic (lol does that makes sense?) but if you forget about that it’s a good story so far! I’m just over half way through

Josephine | 401 comments Finished!

Atshiga | 11 comments Yay! Before I began to read it, I did think the age gap was odd but as you said, the more I got into it, the lesser importance I gave to that. What are your opinions on the book now then? I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I haven’t seen the movie yet but I need to. i’m not so sure about the ending of it though. The fact that Oliver moved on so easily was just wrong.

Josephine | 401 comments I think the age gap could have been decreased by Aciman without lessening the message he was making. I think it was unnecessary and unrealistic. Yes I also didn’t like the ending, part 4 for me was very slow! I don’t think Oliver moved on particularly fast, I just think he had a family! To look after, so he had other people to love, whereas Elio was all in his feelings. You also have to remember the age difference when it happened originally. It is very likely that Oliver had an experience like it before, whereas it was obviously Elio’s first.
