Ellie, I'd love to hear your sarcastic thoughts. I really enjoyed your review and your comments afterwords.

Susie I loved reading your thoughts Idit and felt the same way.

I want to hear the sarcastic thoughts too!!

Elise (ellinou) Haha, well I was thinking more along the lines of, he has as clear an idea of how the book should end than he did for how the entire book should go. Ie, none.

Or, he picked the most inexplicable things he could think of (where have the people been all that time?; how did they magically find them?; why didn't they show up while the dad was still alive?) and went with that to go with the general inexplicability of the entire book.

And I also thought that this was probably one of the only books in the history of books that would have been improved by the concluding phrase "and then he woke up and realised it was all a dream".

Again, sorry XD

Susie Lol!

I think I read that said he doesn’t have the whole story figured out when he starts writing.

Hilde (hilded) | 472 comments Sorry, I haven’t posted much lately, as I have been away on vacation for the last couple of weeks.

This was a so-so for me. I found the book to be very well written, and the language flowed beautifully. It was hard to put down in the beginning, and I was quite curious to find out what had actually happened to this grey, grey world. However, I have to admit that in the middle part I found it to be quite repetitive, just like Ellie mentioned in her review (btw, your review was hilarious, lol)!

I guess my expectations were to high going into it, as I had heard from so many people that this was the best book ever. That was not the case for me. That said, I found the descriptions of the relationship between father and son to be very touching and in deep contrast to the reality of the survival of the fittest. But I somehow wasn’t that emotionally connected with the characters, which I usually am in these kinds of stories. And there were just to many improbabilities. Definetely scary tough, as it could potentially hit close to reality.

Certainly made me think of what I'd do if I had to survive in such a scenario (or even just lost in the woods).

Yes, so scary!!
I saw the movie yesterday, and it was really great! One of those rare cases where I found the movie to be better than the book. It was much more emotional for me, and I think it also made me appreciate the book more. Great adaption!

Elise (ellinou) I'll see if I can find the movie then, if you say it's better than the book, I might enjoy it :)
