We have read so many great books in this book club. Many we're disturbing when you try to wrap your mind around how things were "back in the day", some were amazing stories of bravery and sacrifice. We even have had a few love stories which romanticized the entire period.
This summer, I suggested a book that has led many a discussion. According to President Lincoln it helped fuel the Civil War. Uncle Tom's Cabin will be our summer club reading. Looking at the size of it, we will need all summer!
The edition I selected has a Reading Group Guide, so I'll use that to start this particular discussion; How do the other people on the Shelby estate react to news of the sale of Tom and Harry? What is Mrs. Shelby's objections? How does young "Mas'r George" deal with the news of his friend's departure? How do the other slaves react?
