MaryEllen (mherrera2nd) | 90 comments Okay, what did you think of the McGill?

I don't think I'm to impressed but it's still an interesting story line. At least now we know what happens when you sink to "the center of the Earth".

So...my theory is that the McGill is Mary's brother... It would be fun if my theory was true because at least we'd have closure as to what happened to her brother. And if Mary finds out it's her brother, maybe she can talk him down from the monster he is. I don't know, but that's what I'm thinking.

And I really like that Allie discovered she can skinjack! There are so many possibilities with that discovery. Hopefully she explores it more before the book ends.

Oh! And the fortune cookie the McGill has that says something about the 1000 souls (I don't have my book as I'm writing this...). He doesn't know he's still 1 short since Nick escaped. I'm curious to see what happens with this prediction.

So much stuff happened in this section and I know I am forgetting some of it. I'll have to skim through it when I get home to see if there were other things I wanted to talk about.

What are your thoughts??

Edshara | 43 comments I agree with you about the McGill, I was expecting worse, but he wasn’t as bad as I was hoping. The storyline is still interesting though, like you said.

I was assuming that the McGill would be someone known to one of the characters too, but it didn’t even come to my mind that it could be Mary’s brother!! That would be such an interesting concept.

I love the idea of the fortune cookies and how the fortunes, always come true in Everlost. Yet another interesting plot point. I also understand why Mary doesn’t want anyone to know about that, especially if her main concern is staying in control.

I also thought about the McGill and his fortune now being off, since Nick escaped. It’ll be interesting to see how he reacts when he figures it out, even more so, since he’s going back to the place he was defeated.

Allie’s skinjacking is so cool. I hope we see her do more of that and if she develops anymore talents. I also really like the fortunes she picked. I can’t wait to see how the “Linger or light; the choice will be yours.” pans out.

I was glad to find out what happens when the Afterlights sink and what happens when they encounter water/ocean. Do you think The Haunter is going to sink to the center of the earth? Or do you think he’ll just rest at the bottom of the ocean forever, since the pickle barrel is an item that crossed over?

I’m really interested to see how everything ends up and what’s left unresolved for the next book in the series.

MaryEllen (mherrera2nd) | 90 comments Hmmm, that's a good question about the Haunter. I'm thinking he'd sink even though he's in a barrel that crossed over because it kind of sounded like only boats that crossed over would float. But I don't think it was clearly stated. It'd suck if he sank to the center of the earth because he's sealed in a jar. But even if he's at the bottom of the ocean, there's really no way to escape because if he makes it out of the barrel, he'd sink right away because of the pull of the ocean. He's kind of in a no win scenario unless they use a ghost crane to pull his barrel out, LOL.

I haven't started section 4 yet but hopefully I'll get to reading it this weekend. I can't wait to see what happens and how the book will end. Seems like there is a lot going on with a little bit of the book left to read. I'm thinking cliff hanger??

MaryEllen (mherrera2nd) | 90 comments Oh, I also have to mention about the fortune cookie incident when Allie was pulling them out and she got to the one that said "look behind you" and the McGill was standing there. For some reason that scene made me laugh. :D

Edshara | 43 comments Lol, the McGill scene with Allie and the fortune cookie creeped me out a bit. I think I was expecting something a little bit spookier to happen. I also kind of wanted the McGill to be madder or something, I felt he took her snooping a bit too easy.

With The Haunter I think my curiosity also lies with, which scenario is worse because like you mentioned he’s stuck either way! Also I like your idea of a ghost crane, but since that’s the only realistic option, other than the end of the world, he’s so stuck. I can’t imagine what would have someone make a crane with love, lol. The McGill got lucky with his ship.

I’m trying to get all my library books out of the way, so I’ll probably start on Part 4 this weekend too. I’m definitely thinking this will end on a cliffhanger.

MaryEllen (mherrera2nd) | 90 comments Speaking of The Haunter - do you think he can use his power to levitate out of the water? I know he was able to use a bit of his power when Allie found him, but it was weak. So maybe he'll work on it and get stronger where he's able to free himself...hmmm. I like him so I want to read more about him and his power.

Edshara | 43 comments Ooh I forgot about that. He used it in the warehouse when Allie and that “gang”(I forgot their name) went to rescue Nick and Leif, right?

That would be an interesting twist to the story. I feel like he has so many unique talents, it would be such a waste for him to end like that. Then again, maybe Aliie will take his place. 🤔

MaryEllen (mherrera2nd) | 90 comments Yes, that's the scene I was thinking of. When Allie found him in the barrel and he tried to put the black robes together. I'm sure he could somehow navigate the barrel if he tries hard enough.

True, maybe Allie turns into the next Haunter (but not an evil one, LOL). I'm curious to see how she develops her "talent" and if she finds out she has more. I'm kind of curious to see if Nick or Leif have any hidden talents as well. We really haven't seen much of them since they were captured.

I agree with you about the McGill and the way he treated Allie. I think he was way to nice and didn't seem at all like the terrifying McGill all the kids were afraid of. I was actually glad when he decided to hang her with the others, LOL, because at least then he was being more true to his nature as a monster.

And lastly, I wonder what's going to happen to the 1,000 (or 998) hanging souls that the McGill is keeping captive. Do you think they'll all join Mary in the towers?

Good luck with your library books. I just checked out 2 this week so I'm trying to get them read as well. :)

Edshara | 43 comments I’m curious to see how Allie progresses with her “talents”. On the one hand I wish she had someone to help her figure it all out, on the other I’m glad she’s doing it on her own. I also wonder, what has to happen or what traits does one have to have, in order to have talents in Everlost?

I liked when the McGill chimed Allie too. It was like finally! Lol!! I was also impressed when he outsmarted her and had the wrestler kid go and get The Haunter. Those were the moments he finally felt like a proper villain.

I’d be interested in seeing if Nick and Leif have any powers as well, as the series continue. I almost feel like the book has been more about Allie, than her and Nick. I could also feel this way because Nick and Leif were captured.

That’s an interesting question about all the other souls. I mean, Mary would offer safety and fun, but in a way she “chimes” those that stay with her. She lets them get caught in that daily loop and she withholds information. So is she really any better than The McGill? This is such a fascinating story.
