This is a book set in the mid west. A little boy is a mail delivery man or steals the mail (I forget which) sees a letter to the bank manager that his niece is coming for a visit. The little boy kidnaps the little girl, they live at his tree fort for a while then rob the bank. I read this in 1995 so the details are more then hazy.
