Hunt narrowed his eyebrows at him when he snapped at him, shaking his head and chuckling."Man I'm just trying to fucking help you and whatever the hell is going on with you lately, you don't have to be an ass about it. Do whatever the hell you want bro." He dropped down then so he was flying closer to the trees and he also slowed his flying to a more comfortable speed so he wasn't trying to match Nick's anymore.

Nick went back to the house, just so Hunt couldn’t complain or wake the others. He didn’t want to be with the flock lately. His mind was focused on getting rid of the school so they could all be safe and not have to worry again about being taken or anything.

When Nick got back to the house, Hailey was actually awake now. She was lying down on the roof staring up at the sky, watching but she wasn't too worried about anyone finding them honestly. She raised her head when he noticed Nick, not waving to him or anything though.

Nick landed on the roof and looked around quietly. He didn’t barely acknowledge Hailey, figuring Hunt was gonna come back and rattle on him anyways. He sat on the edge of the roof and fell quiet.

Hailey looked over at Nick when he landed, noticing how far away he was."What's up, you look pissed or something?" She glanced over when Hunt landed a moment later and the guy looked up at her, however he said nothing. Just retreated into the house.

Nick shrugged. “You’re the leader. Make sure that’s clear to the flock because some of them still Think that I’m in charge.” He told her quietly, not really explaining. He wanted to leave again but didn’t want to have to say where he was going.

Hailey furrowed her eyebrows at his words, moving so she was sitting instead of standing."What're you talking about? I made you in charge months ago, that never changed." What the heck had happened between him and Hunt?

“We we’re doing that since things were so unstable. But it’s all settled down right now.. so you should be in charge.” Nick reasoned softly. “The flock is fine here and so I shouldn’t be in charge.” He avoided looking at her.

Hailey frowned and sighed, running her fingers through her hair."Nick what's going on? Can you talk to me? Please? I'm just really confused about what it is you're thinking about and I wanna understand."

“I’m thinking about what to do that is best for the flock. That’s all hailey. And since you’re up and seem to be keeping watch, I want to go fly for a bit..” nick explained simply. He stood and stretched

Hailey listened to his words and sighed, running her hands along her face. She knew some of what was going on with him, but he was still keeping stuff from her it felt like. And he was acting like...well, like this."Okay. Go ahead." She wasn't gonna try to stop him. Maybe she just needed to let him be, figure out...whatever it was.

Nick nodded. “Thanks.” He muttered. He took off and flew away without so much as a backwards glance. He soared up high before gaining speed.

"Well where was he going when he left?" Hunt asked Hailey as the girl paced around the living room. It was morning time now, nearly 10 o'clock and Nick was not back yet. Most of them had been up for the past hour or two and, still, Nick had not shown up.

"I dunno, he was just....going in the direction of where you guys came from," Hailey said, chewing on her nails as she paced back and forth. It worried her. Any of the Flock being gone so long worried her, either them being a capable fighter like Nick or one of the smaller ones in the group like Zar.

"Maybe he just....lost track of time?" Chasity suggested from her spot, shrugging her shoulders.

Nick hadn’t meant to be gone all night. But having to come back to the house had cost him some time. Once he’d gotten to the building that was thought to be tied to the school, he’d taken some time snooping around. He had been using his powers and sneaking around pretty easily until he started to tire. His powers had slipped as he was trying to head out and he’d been spotted by a guard doing patrol. They tried to capture him but nick fought back roughly and was able to get away. He was able to get a ways away from the building but had to stop to rest a bit.

Faye shook her head at chastity. “He doesn’t just lose track of time. Somethings up.” She reasoned faintly.

Chasity nodded at Faye's words, sighing a bit,"Should we go after him?" She looked to Hailey who was still pacing around like a crazy person, going back and forth and back and forth in front of the couch.

Hunt sighed and got up from his spot."I'll go look for him. Maybe knock some sense into that stupid skull'a his to not go wandering around in the middle of the night."

Nick had gotten some rest once he was far enough away from the building, making sure he wasn’t being followed. Around 10, he woke up again and finally made his way back to the house, landing outside as everyone was still debating and such. He knew they’d be up but hoped they wouldn’t notice him sneaking in.


Ace shook his head and tugged on Hunt’s wrist. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. You two are still on shitty terms.” He commented quietly.

"Fine by me, when I get to him he'll know I'm there to kick his ass for being an idiot," Hunt said with a shrug of her shoulders.

"No if anyone's gonna go after him I will. I let him fly off last night," Hailey said with a shake of her head.

Hunt scoffed, shaking his head."Why can't you two get it? Both you and him. You two are the oldest, the most capable fighters out of all of us. You understand? One of you should be with us at all times, not running off chasing one another!" The others were capable fighters, yeah, he was good and so was Ace. But not as good at Hailey and Nick, who also got a good advantage with having powers and such.

Ace rubbed hunts hand. “He’s right Hailey. If one of you wants to fly off to who the fuck knows where, that’s fine. But we’re a flock, a family. We can’t have both the people who act like they’re supposed to be the adults running off.” He added.

Nick quietly slipped into the house, easing the door shut behind him. He heard them talking and frowned, moving to quickly sneak upstairs. He didn’t have the energy to hide himself.

Hailey listened to the both of them, sighing heavily and running her fingers through her hair."If he's hurt or in trouble, I don't wanna let you guys getting into trouble either."

"And maybe that's just what they want. Maybe they want you to run off to go get him cause they know you will. That'll leave us here, more vulnerable then if you were here, and he might not stand a chance against whatever comes at us. You gotta think about it like that Hailey!" Hunt said, raising his voice slightly. He was just pissed off, pissed off with the both of them. They were the oldest, they should be acting like it.

Chasity was listening to them, but then she caught a slight thought that she knew was Nick's. Perking up, she looked over to where she heard him."Nick?" Hailey, Hunt and Zar all looked over when Chasity said Nicks name.

Faye frowned a bit at Hunt’s tone. “Agreed Hunt. Having either or especially both of you running off puts us more at risk. We think we’re safe right now but we should still be careful. All this running around and sneaking out and what not shouldn’t be happening. It’s not right.” She added a bit more gently, hoping her calm voice would settle Hunt a bit.

Nick cursed under his breath when chastity called out for him. “Yeah. I’ll be down in a minute.” He called out before quickly trying to head upstairs. He didn’t want them seeing him all bruised up.

Hailey heard Nick's voice from the back door and quickly moved, not giving him a chance to get upstairs."Where the hell were you?!" She demanded, not yet seeing his inquires. But when she did, she stopped and her eyes widened."What the hell happened?!"

Hunt moved to the back door as well, seeing Nick all banged up and bruised. This is exactly why he was trying to stop him last night...

Nick had some bruises on his face and arms and his knuckles were all scraped up. “I was out. And I’m fine.” He assured softly. “I ended up taking a nap out there. That’s why I’m back so late.” He added as if that was a reasonable explanation.

Ace let hunt go, frowning and following after them. He certainly wasn’t expecting nick to look like he’d lost a fight.

"Bullshit!" Hailey yelled at him, tired of this. Tired of him lying and keeping his feelings locked up and not telling them anything."Get in the living room, we are going to take care of those cuts and talk! Now!"

Hunt squirmed away when Hailey used her mama voice, wow was she mad. Rightfully so of course. He moved back into the living room and took a seat on the love seat, hoping that they could get that talk they needed to do.

Nick raised an eyebrow at her yelling, a bit caught off guard to hear her taking that tone with him. He didn’t directly follow her orders. He slipped into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water first before coming to the living room and sitting on the floor, away from the others.

Ace sat back beside Hunt, knowing Hailey was gonna go off pretty bad.

Faye got up and got stuff to clean Nick up and help him while Hailey seemed like she was gonna chew him out.

Hailey stayed with him as he went to get that bottle of water. She followed him over to where he sat down and knelt down next to him, opening up the kit Faye got and taking his hand so she could clean up the cuts."Now, what happened? Where did you go and why are you so cut up?" Her voice was still raised as she said this, not yelling or screaming but she was still hella angry.

Nick pulled his hand away from her. He grabbed the stuff to clean his own cuts and started doing that so he wouldn’t have to look at her. “I went out following a lead. Ended up getting in a scuffle. It’s fine though.” He explained quietly.

Ace rolled his eyes and glanced at Hunt. “Let me guess, that’s total bullshit?”

Hunt looked at the two of them, sighing heavily at Nick's stubborn attitude. He had always been stubborn, a lot of them were, but recently it seemed to be getting worse for him."Well when I went out following him last night he said he was keeping watch, but he did mention taking down the School when I was talking to him. I figure he must've gone somewhere he really shouldn't have."

"So you went out to go and try to look for them yourself, is that it?" Hailey asked Nick, putting her hands on her hips as she stared at him.

Ace nodded at Hunt’s explanation. He glanced to the others before at Hailey and nick. He normally had a lot to say but was trying to keep his mouth shut.

“No. I was just doing some research. Got a little too close.” Nick reasoned. He cleaned and wrapped his knuckles before putting the extra stuff away. “I didn’t get followed or anything. It’s fine and I’d like to go take a nap now if you all don’t mind.” He muttered softly.

"You went out alone to go scouting without telling anyone where you were going. You lied to Hunt and you lied to me, goddammit Nick!" Hailey cursed, standing up from her spot and running her fingers through her hair,"That is not okay for you to do, why can't you understand that?"

Nick didn’t look at her. “I told you that you’re in charge of the flock. You handle them and then I can stay focused on taking down the school and getting us set up for a lot better future.” He replied calmly, leaning back against the wall.

"You are part of the Flock! It's not me do everything with them and you go off and do whatever the hell you want! It's us, all of us together! Hailey yelled, shaking her head,"You cannot be going out there and risking yourself because in situations like this, you worry the rest of us! Hunt was about to go out to look for your ass, what if you had gotten taken as a hostage?! Then that makes Hunt being taken too!"

Nick watched her, doing his best to push his emotions down and not really react to her yelling. That may have not been the best response but he went with it. “Then I want out of the flock. We’re safe so my focus is on taking down the school before they ruin more people. You guys have been safe and stable here so my attention has been elsewhere.” He explained quietly.

Hailey listened to his words, her heart dropping when she heard them. He wanted to...he wanted to what?"You wanna leave? Leave the Flock?"

"Are you fucking kidding me Nick?!" Hunt jumped in, standing up from his spot on the couch,"That is not the answer, you leaving. The hell you think that's gonna accomplish?!"

“We’re safe. Things are stable for now. So yeah. I want to go after the school and destroy them in anyway possible. There doesn’t need to be more like any of us in the world.” He mumbled quietly. “It’s not wrong to want us to have a chance at a future where we don’t have to live in fear..”

Ace watched Hunt. “Leaving isn’t gonna solve anything. You seriously think you all alone could take down the school? Have you lost it?”

"Ace is right, you're delusional if you think you can take down the entire School down by yourself! We'll be worried about you the entire time you're gone, you're gonna be doing something dangerous by yourself and, oh, you'll be leaving your fucking girlfriend to go on a suicide mission!" Hunt yelled, not even thinking that this could be a good idea in any way.

"They're right. The School is a lot bigger than you think," Chasity said from her spot on the couch, shaking her head,"Even if you do manage to take down one School by yourself, there are a dozen other facilities scattered all over the place, some bigger than the other. You'll never be able to take down them all on your own."

Hailey had spotted speaking at this point, just listening to everyone else. She was so shocked that Nick had even suggested leaving...

Nick sighed and rubbed his temples. “You all done yelling yet?” He muttered lowly. “I don’t want to sit here and be safe and act like things are normal as they’re still torturing other kids and creating more mutants.. you guys are safe and can be normal here. And maybe I can’t take down the school on my own. But there’s lots out there that could help me to do it.” He reasoned.

"We're not just sitting here Nick! We're taking some time to recover after what happened to us, you, Hailey and Chasity specifically! You guys were literally taking about us moving on soon so we can figure out what the hell the Institute is! Why can't you wait a few more days for that?!" Hunt asked,"We're not gonna just sit here, we wanna help them too. We just needed to take care of ourselves first."

"Nick I don't think it's a good idea for you to go, "Zar chimed in as well, voice much calmer than Hunt's was,"We need you here to help us and we can go and help everyone stuck at the School together. It's safer that way."

[Fallen]

“You guys are still young. Ethan’s willing to let you guys stay here. You’d be able to be normal and safe.” He commented. “I’ve been doing research the whole time we’ve been here practically. Last night was just me following a lead.” He added.

Faye bit her lip and listened. She understood nick’s perspective but didn’t want the flock to split up.

"That's not what we want to do, that wasn't the plan! We don't wanna just sit around doing nothing while people are being hurt, we wanna help! Us taking a breather doesn't change that!" Hunt yelled and he opened his mouth to say more but Hailey suddenly cut him off.

"Do whatever the hell you want," Hailey spoke up, voice sounding practically emotionless.

Hunt looked at her when she said that, furrowing his eyebrows at her words."Hailey, don't tell him that."

"No, I'm done. I'm done with the arguing, I'm done...trying to keep people down," Hailey said with a shrug of her shoulders. She looked at Nick and her eyes were just like her voice, emotionless."Do whatever the hell you want." She turned then and left the room, going to the room she had been staying in and slamming the door shut.

Zar watched Hailey go, taking a second before she stood up."Hailey wait." She went after her then, wanting to try and talk to her.

Nick didn’t seem bothered though hearing Hailey’s word definitely stung. He stood but stopped when Faye spoke. He went and put the first aid kit away before silently sitting back in the living room.


Faye got up with Zar. “Hang on. I can try and talk to her.” She offered, following after Hailey. She shot a glance to nick. “If you leave, I’m gonna Hunt you down and clip your wings or something. Don’t you dare ditch our family to go on a suicide mission.” She cautioned before heading to Hailey’s room and opening the door.

Hunt watched as Hailey went into one of the rooms, sighing and shaking his head. He put his hands on his hips and watched as Nick came back in the room."You're a fucking ass, you know that? You got...you got some issues dude." He moved into the kitchen then to grab some water and try to calm himself before he beat the hell outta Nick.

Zar waited on Faye before she went with her into the room Hailey went into. She was, obviously, still in there, she hadn't gone flying out the window or anything. She looked up from her spot on the bed when the two girls came in, looking back down afterwards though."What?"

Nick didn’t answer. He ran a hand through his hair before glancing to chastity. He understood why Hailey and everyone was upset but he felt like he couldn’t sit still. He had to fix things. He had to find some way to keep them safe.

Faye shrugged. “We don’t want you alone.” She explained. “And we hopefully want to get things settled a bit before nick runs off and this all falls apart..”

Chasity caught the look and she took a peak inside of Nick's head to see what he was thinking about. She sighed and moved from her spot, going over and kneeling down beside him."I know that you want to do all of these things. You want to keep everyone safe and you wanna take down the School. But that's a lot to do on your own Nick."

"Faye honestly, I just don't care anymore. I can't keep someone here that doesn't wanna be here," Hailey said, looking over at the two girls,"Do I want him to stay? Yes. But if he needs some time to go do...whatever the hell it is that he needs to do, who am I to stop him?"

"Well you're his girlfriend for starters," Zar said, sitting down on the bed beside her.

Hailey sighed when Zar said that, shaking her head."I don't even know if I'm that anymore."

Nick shrugged. “I know that. But I’ve gotta try. My whole life, long as I can remember, has been about protecting these kids. They’re my family.” He commented. He ran a hand through his hair. “Taking down the school guarantees them a future.”

“You’re the only one who could stop him Hailey. He listens to you. He doesn’t even hear the rest of us most of the tome.”

"Okay but consider this. Maybe the best way to protect them is to stay with them, not go off to fight a war without them. Because if they get caught, if they get hurt, you're not going to be there to protect them if you go," Chasity said, slumping her shoulders a little bit.

"But he's not Faye, that's the point. Did you see me trying in there? I was trying to explain everything to him, but he wasn't listening. He doesn't listen to anyone anymore and I'm sick of it," Hailey said, shaking her head,"I'm not gonna stop him anymore. If he wants to go off and do God knows what, well, that's his decision."

“Hailey can protect them. And Hunt doesn’t want me in charge anyways. He’d be a good leader.” He mumbled. “I can’t sit by any longer. There’s too many like us. There’s gotta be escapees and such. Enough to be able to fight back.” He looked over at her.

“He heard you Hailey. But he’s not gonna bare his emotions when everyone is sitting right there. We already told him not to leave. So you’ll have another chance to talk to him. Alone maybe.” Faye suggested.

Chasity listened to his words and sighed a bit, shaking her head."I don't think it's a good idea, but I can't really tell you what to do. If that's really what you want to do, if that's why you feel like you need to do, I won't try and stop you." She put a hand on his shoulder gently before standing up and moving back over to the couch.

"No Faye," Hailey said, looking over at her and shaking her head,"I'm done. That's it. Let him do what he wants."

“You all are acting like I’m insane. I’m not crazy..” he mumbled, getting up. He headed to one of the bedrooms to go lay down.

Faye frowned. “Give him one more shot? At least talk to him before he runs off?” She asked. “You may be able to at least get some closure if you can’t reason with him. He’s still family after all...”

"I didn't say that...,"Chasity said with a heavy sigh, plopping down on the couch.

"Don't pay no mind to him. He's just loosing his goddamn mind!" Hunt raised his voice at the end there to make sure Nick heard him thought the walls. He took the bottle of water he had gotten and went back into the living room, standing next to Ace and taking a drink of his water."The hell are we gonna do?"

"I don't need any closure Faye. If Nick is having doubts about leaving, he can come to me and tell me himself. I'm sorry, but I'm done trying to reason with him and try and figure him out. I've tried," Hailey said, taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly.

Nick silently went and laid down.

Ace shrugged. “Well. Letting him leave will wreck Hailey. She’s being hurt by this all already.” He commented. “But we’re gonna have to figure out something rather than them being in charge for sure.” He wrapped his arms around Hunt.

Faye sighed softly. “But something’s going on. You’re the only one who might be able to get him to stay.” She commented quietly. “We can’t force you to try obviously but it seems like he may need you to get him thinking straight again.” She commented.
