Hunt listened to the two of them talk, still not happy about what she had done, how she had controlled her and made him feel. How she used him and Faye to catch Hailey and Nick. But..."So you were just doing your job, doing what the School told you to do, huh?"Chasity nodded at Hunt's words, rubbing her hands on her pants."I know it doesn't excuse my actions. I was being mean, a bitch if I'm perfectly honest. But I was trying to be perfect, for the School cause I thought they cared about it and valued me as, me. But they didn't."
Ace held onto hunt still, leaning on him and closing his eyes. “Your flock. Especially Hailey, are what they’ve considered the best. We have never really matched up to their expectations no matter how hard we try to please them. We did what we were told to avoid more punishment, along with More invasive procedures and experiments.” Jayden admitted, trying to back Chastity up.

Hunt continued to nod as he listened to the both of them speaking, sighing heavily after a second and nodded."Okay....okay, I get it. I'm not....happy with what you did. But you seem to regret it....and I'd rather not make everything uncomfortable for everyone. So...it's cool."Chasity relaxed a bit at his words and nodded her head."Thank you. I won't do anything like I did before, I swear."
Ace relaxed his hold on Hunt a bit. “Thank you.” He mumbled to him before glancing at Hailey. “We probably need to sort out different sleeping arrangements.” He suggested softly, figuring she’d be in charge since nick was avoiding them all.

Hunt nodded at the thanks, moving his hands so he was holding both of Ace's instead.Hailey looked at him and nodded, thinking about it for a second."Chasity and Jayden, you two can sleep in here. Zar, Faye, Ace and Hunt, you guys can take the bigger room and Victor and Cass can take the smaller one."
"What about you and Nick?" Zar asked from her spot.
"We're gonna be keeping watch pretty much every night. When one of us isn't, we'll just sleep on the other couch or the floor in here," Hailey replied.
Ace rubbed his hand gently, glad things were settled without any sort of a major fight. He nodded. “That’ll work. One of us can always take watch so it doesn’t have to be you two all the time.” He offered quietly. Faye stayed close to zar, glancing at the time. She was glad that ace had brought that up so they could sort it out and go to bed.

Hailey nodded at Ace's words, though she did want the rest of them to get as much sleep as possible if they could."Thanks....it's late now though, everyone should start getting to bed."Zar nodded at Hailey's words, yawning as she sat up from relaxing on Faye. She hadn't gotten a lot of sleep without her so now that she was near, it was hard for her to stay awake.
"Cool," Hunt replied with a nod, ready for sleep as well.
Ace nodded and let hunt go. “Come on then. Bedtime.” He told him softly. Faye got up. “You can head up Zar. I’m gonna get victor and Cass tucked in first.” She assured softly.
Jayden looked to Hailey. “Thanks again for giving us a chance.” He said softly, cleaning up the jenga game.

"I like bedtime," Hunt said around a yawn, moving past everyone and into the room. He scooted the blowup mattress over a bit, figuring they would take that and give the girls the bed.Zar nodded and followed along with Hunt and Ace.
Hailey watched as everyone started filing off for bed, getting the bed ready for Chasity and Jayden in here so they had more room."Yeah you're welcome. I would've felt like shit, you know? Leaving you two there."
Chasity helped Jayden with cleaning up.
Faye got the younger kids settled and tucked into bed before going to join Zar. She yawned softly and glanced around the room. Jayden nodded slightly to her and cleaned up. “That’s fair. But we’re still grateful.” He commented. “We’ll help out how we can.”

Zar took her spot on the bed, not lying down quite yet. She wanted to wait for Faye. She looked up when she came in and smiled.Hailey got couch all set up for them so it was like a bed, throwing the pillows where they belonged."Thanks. Now you two get some sleep." She looked at them a moment longer before exiting the house.
Chasity watched her put it all together, looking back over at Jayden once she was gone."Thank you for standing up for me."
Faye climbed into bed next to her. “Come on. You look like you definitely need to sleep.” She said gently before pressing a light kiss to zar’s cheek and laying down. Nick was still perched on the roof, his wings open and half wrapped around himself
Jayden nodded. “You’re welcome. There’s no way we would’ve gotten out without your help so I’m not gonna let them act like you’re the enemy.”

Zar watched as she got in with her, blushing with that kiss. She waiting for her to lay down before she did, snuggling up closer with her.Hailey got herself up on the roof as well, looking at Nick. She watched for a second before she came over closer to him, not sitting yet."Chasity and Hunt were able to be in the same room without trying to kill one another. So that's a plus."
Chasity listened to his words, reaching over and patting his shoulder gently."Thank you." She stood up then and got onto the bed, scooting over to that they wouldn't be too close to one another and had a decent amount of room between them.
Faye snuggled close to her and it didn’t take long to fall asleep. She felt exhausted but was at ease now that she was back with the rest of the flock. Nick nodded. “Good.” He agreed quietly, glancing around.
Jayden smiled softly at her. He got into bed after she did, curling up under a blanket on the opposite side with plenty of room between them.

Hailey looked down at him, not wanting that to be the end of their conversation. She waited a moment before she sat down next to him, letting there be some space between them though."Wanna tell me what else is on your mind? Cause I can't help you through it if I don't know what it is."
Nick moved his wings so he could see her. “There’s nothing going through my mind. I wanted to keep watch. Just in case they’ve got a tracker in one of us or something.” He told her, lying easily. He ran a hand through his already mussed up hair.

“Yeah. But it’s not really important Hailey. We’re all together. You’re.., we’re safe.” He mumbled. Nick glanced over at her and bit his lip lightly. “I just am trying to keep us safe.”

Nick sighed and watched her for a moment. “You can just let it be Hailey. Everything’s fine. I’m not being that distant when hunt wants to fight and everyone else is just chilling. I’m just keeping us safe.”

Hailey was taken back when Nick raised his voice at her, looking at him for a second. What the hell? She was trying to help him and here he was yelling at her? She bit the inside of her cheek and stood back up, shaking her head.
Nick sighed softly and apologized after a moment. “Look. I’m not trying to upset you. I just. I did what I needed to do. And I’m okay with that. Oddly so. But it’s fine.”

Hailey looked at him when he spoke again, taking a moment to think about how to reply to that."So you're okay that you killed those people like you did? Faye said that you killed the lead scientist too, from the way she said it I'm guessing in a pretty rough way. Why?"
Nick shrugged. “They were hurting you. And they took you again and again for more testing like it was nothing. There’s no guarantee that they didn’t try and get you pregnant or something without telling you. And that scientist deserved it. He hurt you. And Zar. And Faye.” He listed quietly. “I did what was right to protect you. All of you..” he muttered softly.

“It doesn’t feel like I should be happy about it. And I’m still angry. The school is still standing. They could still come back.” Nick summarized quietly. He looked over at her.

Nick shook his head. “I want you safe. I don’t want you to have to go there and risk another fight or capture. They’ve made it clear that you’re the most valuable of us.” He told her faintly. He looked around them again.

Nick sighed and shook his head. “I want you safe Hailey. I’m just trying to protect you.” He told her again, rubbing his face. He didn’t understand why she wouldn’t just accept that he had to protect her from whatever the school or institute or anyone wanted from her.

Nick shook his head slightly at her. “I’ve failed. More than once. That’s not gonna happen again.” He mumbled to her. He didn’t pull away from her touch. “We need a plan to protect all of us. You especially.”

“I just want to keep you safe. However I can.” He mumbled, rubbing his face. “I don’t want to have to risk victor and Cass. Or any of them. They all should just be left to grow up without having to deal with this anymore.” He mumbled, stuck on the same subject. His mind just kept circling the same topic of keeping them safe.

"Yeah, I will," Hailey replied to him with a nod. She moved after a moment so she was right next to Nick, pretty much touching him as she laid there.(( So you know how I've been reading the Raven Boys books? It's like getting kinda weird in this second book haha))
Jayden spoke up after a moment. “She also was convinced by me. I told her that I’ve been wanting out but I couldn’t do it alone. She’d brought them in and they were our best shot. You guys have escaped the school multiple times. It didn’t feel right to ask her to help us escape and then leave her behind. She had the key card that could get us to the lab and through some of the halls. She willingly gave that card to me to give me a chance.”
